Butterfly on Pentas
beautiful shot!!
I love you butterfly shot. I mostly have viceroys in my garden. They love the orange cosmos. I just wanted to say hello to you since I am just down the road. Does the pinta come back for you? I am also interested in orchids but am intimidated by them. I am glad you have success so close by. shirleyt
Hi Shirleyt,
No, the pentas don't come back for me here. I love them, though. These are really red, although they look pink in the picture. I found some this year that were a beautiful cranberry pink color, and they're in the back yard. But, they're close by my Mexican Sunflower, and the butterflies just swarm all over it. It doesn't come back either, but I always leave it until it gets brown and crunchy in the winter, and it will reseed itself. I have a bunch of them coming up all over the place every spring. I've tried transplanting them, but don't have much luck with that. Here is a closeup of the flower, but it is about 5 feet tall and loaded with orange blooms that are about 2 inches across. This one is about 4 feet wide.
I'm in Covington, but I'm up on the upper end, almost to Washington Parish, so I bet our weather is very much the same.
Thanks,
Happytail
happytail,
That is a beautiful plant... Mexican Sunflower. Is it related to Zinnias? Also, loved your picture of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail on the Pentas. I have Pentas too but have yet to see a single BF land on them! (????)
