luvs.Great shots! what plant is the red spotted purple swallowtail on with that great deep purple flower? Are all those guys flying around your back yard? Don

Thanks Don, I call it split indigo morning glory. 2nd year in a row to come back the same. I can save you some seeds if you want. I love the color. Yes they were all in my yard.

Thank you for posting these luvs!
I am a fairly new gardener and today I noticed a new butterfly going from bud to bud on my vigna caracalla vine. When I saw your post with the pic of the hairstreak I knew that was like the one I saw! I checked a source for Florida butterflies and discovered it was a grey hairstreak. It was so small and delicate. Thanks to your post I made a new discovery in my yard. I did not realize that the Vigna would be desirable to them. The buds on the vine are only about 3/8ths inch long right now. Never saw this butterfly before in my life, but then I have never gardened much before either. I just need to get a camera.....

Your welcome shellabella!! You will become hopelessly addicted!

Well I did more research and now I know it makes sense that it likes the Vigna..... it is from the Papilionaceae Family which means according to the plant files...."From the Latin papilio (butterfly), after the shape of this family's flowers; the pea & bean family"

According to the Butterfly info I found on the web these little guys like plants from the legume family. My Vigna must have been the closest thing around that is similar to what he likes!

See I'm already obsessed....I should have been in bed an hour ago and instead I'm researching butterflies.LOL!
