Okay...it's 12:13 and I must go to bed.....tomorrow is my first official day at work!!
FRIDAY,Aug 11: Texas "Coffee" and Gardening in the Morning
So much for your getting up late now. Hope it isn't too tough on your first day back.
Changing the subject.....I just ran across a thread Dave added to the Dave's Garden forum. Did you know the website was featured on CNN???? Take a look at the video, I think it was so cool.

I am sooo glad it is Friday, this has been a long week!!
How neat that Dave's Garden was featured on CNN! Pretty exciting!
My dd is a school teacher and her school starts Monday! She's as busy as a bee right now attending meetings and completeing her room.

Good morning! I can't stay long today.. We have company coming tonight and the house is a mess, so I need to be cleaning. If you see me on here today, shoo me off. LOL
I spent most of Wednesday at the house of a friend's mother. The mother is 80-something and has been a collector and hoarder all of her life. She has finally agreed to let go of some of her things, so my friend has been making trips over there all summer to try to get her garage cleaned out. They have had 3 garage sales and taken at least 6 pickup truck loads of things to thrift stores, and have put loads of trash out for heavy trash day at least twice now... and you can barely tell the garage has been touched. It is so sad! It takes forever to go through the boxes because you have to look through everything. There will be piles of papers, old Avon receipt books, just stuff.. And then at the bottom will be a collection of the sweetest little hand blown glass animals. We dug through a whole row of boxes, and then put the sorted good stuff back into the hole so they are ready for the next garage sale. Heavy trash day was last week and there is another whole row boxes of trash there, too, that is going to have to wait until the 2nd Thursday of September.
The mom's health is failing and she needs some pretty expensive meds, so we've been listing stuff on eBay for her. I brought home another bunch of boxes of better stuff Wednesday. Most of her stuff is Avon collectibles, so it doesn't make a lot of money - but there is a LOT of it, so what it lacks in quality, it more than makes up for in quantity. LOL It's going to take me a while to get this bunch inventoried and processed, because every single piece needs a good bath.
We watched the CNN video yesterday and thought it was really cool, too. :-)
Ok, I need to grab something to eat and then start mopping floors before the bunnies wake up and start bouncing around. I hope you all are having a great Friday!!

I need DH to help me view the CNN thing. We are on a Linux system so I can't open Microsoft stuff. I know this isn't morning...but I just now had time to get on DG.
Marylyn, that is so nice of you to help your friend's mother. I'm sure she really appreciates it.
I better go clean the bathroom now! woohoo. Oy vey..will it ever cool off? While I got back Wednesday from my family reunion in Oklahoma, I had a bunch of tomatoes that finally ripened. I've already eaten so many!
Michelle
oh...and I found this little guy/girl with his/her momma in my tomato garden...they ran out and hid in the bushes. the momma is a feral cat and I am hoping to catch them and find homes for them. I don't want her having litter after litter. Connie, your kitty (I saw his web page) is way beautiful!! He looks like a real sweetie. where didyou get him?
Michelle
well, off to clean the bathroom...oh joy.
Hi Michelle....we got Brutus from the Paw's Match program at Pet's Mart! You have to pay a....I think 70. fee to cover the shots and neutering....but he was a year old...perfect age for us...kittens take more time and cause more damage! haha
Your collection of "maters looks great!!! I LOVE homegrown ones!!
Marylyn...I second Michelle's praise of you for helping your friend's mother...how noble!
It was fun! (And dirty and sweaty and HOT! LOL) Ooo, and her mom had the prettiest rose bush! She said it was a 4th of July rose - absolutely gorgeous, covered red roses with white stripes. She said that it blooms almost all year long and sometimes it has so many blooms you can't see the bush. I want one! But I'd have to get rid of a tree or six first, so I guess it isn't going to happen. Maybe I could plant one in my neighbors yard, so I can look at it. What do you think? LOL
Yummm, Michelle. My mouth is watering! I LOVE fresh tomatoes, too!
OK, break's over.. The house is mostly done. I just need to get the little one up from her nap and straighten the bunnies' room. I love having company over - and I'm sure glad when it is all over! LOL

Hope you survived your first day back, Connie! I've been helping DD with getting ready for her neighborhood's garage sale tomorrow. Bruce is still in IL, so I've spent plenty time with baby too. Too hot to look for plants. Difficult enough to keep what I already have alive. Didn't see Calvin's post about coming to Austin till too late to join. Maybe we can have a "reunion" when it gets cooler. I've been driving up to the lake to water...don't need to mow....just not growing very much. Plan to stop by soon on your way home from school one day.
Michelle...your tomatoes look gorgeous! What a welcome home for you. Nice to catch up with you again. And no, I don't want a kitty.....
We had a Master Gardener ''Appreciation" reception downtown last evening. It was held at the Hirshfield Moore House (otherwise known as the Aggie Embassy of Austin). We donated nearly 14,000 volunteer hours last year. There was a drawing for prizes...and a very kind person gave me his ticket when he won. I picked a 5X7 outdoor rug from Barton Springs Nursery! We were also offered our choice of two newly introduced bat-face cupheas...Rumba and Tango...,or a new salvia that has not yet been introduced....Salvia Mystic Spires. I took a salvia, as I already had the cupheas. The salvia is a dwarf, upright, compact Indigo Spires. Will stay under 3' and not sprawl like Indigo...so they say.... If it's as easy to propagate as it's big brother, I'll have some to share!
Have to wait till DH gets home to run the CNN video. I think my sound card has fizzled. Have no sound on anything! It's usually the AC that goes out when he's out of town!
I too love having company because it makes cleaning more ....fun? Yes...I guess so!
Marylyn...I love the way you call your little ones 'bunnies'...so sweet!
Did I tell you I used to live in Houston?? For about 8 years! I lived in a townhouse off Gessner at Westheimer for about 5 years...until the kids started coming! THen we moved out to Katy for about 3 years. Both my kids were born at Memorial City General Hosp. off the Katy Freeway....I love Houston....have Loads of friends who live there.
Sandi.....
I'd love to come by some day after school....after I get it all "under control"....usually a couple weeks!
I'm glad you have been having fun (and staying cool) at your lake house! Roger and I just got the final rendition of our pool that will be in the front yard...can't wait! It will be all ready for spring, I guess! I will be able to garden/swim/garden/ swim...etc. next spring and summer!
I think I read about the 'Mystic Spires' somewhere....I know I've seen the words. Is the color any different or just the more compact size? What fun....the drawing! What design does your outdoor rug have on it? Is it a painted oilcloth type rug?
NOT having fun at lake house....only watering and running back home. Too hot up there for me. We have Sea-Doos, but I'm afraid that I'd get one out and it would die on me way far away..... I'd be floating around like a big whale....sigh....There's hardly anyone up there during the week.
Pool sounds great! When we moved to Tucson, I designed our pool with an area in the shallow end that had a curved seating area, with air jets along it and a sleeve for a table that sat in the middle of the seating area with an umbrella! We figured we didn't need a Jacuzzi in the AZ heat. Instead of diving board, we had two large flat boulders brought in as 'diving rocks.' Also had moved a huge box of fossil rock from a friend's ranch outside of Sonorra. Designed a fountain of those rocks that flowed into the pool. I sometimes wonder if the people that live there now know where those rocks came from. That was a very cool house....I miss it...and my neighbors too! Oops, I'm wandering....As an aside....that pool cost $5000. in the late 70s.....
Rug is not oil cloth...hard to describe, but they are on the porch at nursery. Same ones at HD, I think. Sort of a woven plastic....not something I'd have bought, but pretty neat for free!
Mystic is same color as Indigo....
It is probably pvc. check out the trash to treasure forum and they have a thread going about pvc and one of the companies with a link that has lots of pvc rubs in different sizes that are neat.
Caldwell's in Rosenberg has Mystic Spires in.
''It is probably pvc.....''
yep, mine looks sorta like one of the 5X8s....
''Caldwell's in Rosenberg has Mystic Spires in......''
Super, now I won't have to share!!!!
they just got it in
