Western Boxelder Bug (Leptocoris rubrolineatus)
I have been after these little pest for a month and cant stop them. I have tons of them in my back yard and it didnt start to bother me untill they started showing up in the house!! I have come up with a mixture of things that kill them instantly. But the next day they are right back, just as many as before and Im not talking about a few bugs. I have tried to track down thier nest, walked over every foot of the yard, checked every plant, rock, nook and cranny out there and killed every one I see. I have noticed that a month ago they were mostly red but now they are black, adullts and half the ones I see are mateing. Is there a answer to these pest!!!??? Seems like they multiply faster than you can kill them and to be honest, I dont think killing 1000 a day helps a bit!!
I think the only solution is to remove the host tree. I use my shop vac to remove them. They are definitely something that you had best just get used to having them about. Here is a good Ag Extension leaflet on the nasty pests http://www.unce.unr.edu/publications/files/ho/2006/fs0684.pdf
