Little Titan re-emerges.

Bessemer City, NC(Zone 7b)

This is my Amorphophallus titanum in mid-June. It rested aroung a month, a little more I guess, and slowly started into growth.

The little 'nubbin' is just showing after I removed the dead stalk.

Now how long does it take it before it will bloom?

Bessemer City, NC(Zone 7b)

The bulb can bloom at nine years old, weighing about 65-70 pounds. When it blooms will depend on how large and healthy the bulb is, not just the age. I hope mine doesn't lose weight since I don't have a grrenhouse to provide the high humidity and heat it needs to flourish. I may have to find it a better home if it is smaller when I check it next year.

Boy that is one big bulb. I would love to see the plant first hand.

I just love how they emerge.. a nub and then kinda creepy looking, then the leaves start uncurling.. so cool. Thanks for the photo segment of the growth Robert, I love the amorphs, and your young titan looks great.

And August 18.
Pretty much fully-opened leaf.

Edited to add: Not fully-opened by a long-shot. The canopy is now 36" across and is 29" above the soil line.

vizz-

These guys will grow on you .. they will be big .. you will be surprised .. they should be up before frost .. but you may need to find a window indoors for them for winter..

If the worse happens .. Il have some bulbs I can send you

Chris

Robert I've had them about three weeks.. I got them from Chris, I'm following his instructions, cuz I dont know ---- about them. All I do is dig in dirt, put in bulb, and cover with dirt and wait. But I'm watching them, and they will be protected if need be.. I have a good window for em'. They seem to have a different growing time than the one I sent you Chris. Those bloom and grow, almost have the leaves before the bloom is gone. I'm sure different spiecies have different habits.. but I know I like them already... thanks for the incourgement..

Viv~

I have some of those too. They are ground hardy here but because of not having selected and prepared a good site for mine, they're all potted too.
