Do Rosy Red minnows make good pond fish?

Claremore, OK

I was reading an article that said Rosy Red minnows make good pond fish I was wondering if anyone at Dave's has had any experience with them?

I have had them in the past. They don't tear up the plants, don't move the rocks, and aren't large enough to soil the pond heavily so I would call them decent pond fish. I would say they aren't that pretty in the water to my way of thinking though certainly not like looking at a goldfish or a koi when you look down into the pond.

Dear Deb,, I did read the same thing...went to Walmart and purchased some...they were fine..but not "rugged" enough, here in Fla. they either were picked off by something or died of natural causes..i have 2 ponds (Lowes preformed) for about 6 or 7 yrs. no filtration except alot of plants..and i have found you can't beat swordtails..mollies...one blue paradise fish..they all make it thru minor temp. fluations..and reproduce to beat the band! Our deplorable water they thrive on..(as long as you dechlorinate for chloramines etc.) In your neck of the woods, most tropicals would have to overwinter indoors. My 2 cents!! sue p.s. albino and reg. zebras thrive in my ponds too! Love the longfin variety..they look like tiny butterfly koi....albino show up nicely in dark pond bottoms!

Thanks for the info You all!
