Am I right on this one?

Finally got a pic of a butterfly in my butterfly garden today! and I'm almost certain of the ID. it's not a super pic, but the markings are pretty clear. I took about 20, but the little beauty just wasn't movin'....clouded sulphur

Great shot! Looks like the CS to me too. I'm starting to see more Sulphurs lately so hopefully I'll be getting lots of pics too. Wish this 100 degree heat would go away for a little while tho, or at least hide behind some clouds.

My DH and myself spent part of our day photographing butterflies today. This my Sulphor pic on a Hedychium x 'Anne Bishop'

Aside from sulphurs I got this shot of a fritillary and a Black Swallowtail on the same inflorescence, just different blooms.

Beautiful, Liz! I was actually chasing a monarch when I found the sulphur and it was much more cooperative. I think you guys get a lot more different sulphurs than we do here, so it was pretty easy for me to identify.

Is this a sulphur also? if so I have so many of them.

John,
Yes, it's a Cloudless Sulphur aka Phoebis sennae.

Do any of you see any Cloudless Sulphur larva ?I've got a half dozen cassia alata and the cloudless sulphur have layed tons of eggs on them.I've tried to bring some larva into my butterfly cage on the plants but the larva die at a certain size.So I stopped bringing them into the cage and instead I've been watching the small cats on the plants, same thing after a certain size they seem to die.At first I thought that some thing is getting them, but never have seen anything.I grew the plants from seed so it can't be poison or any thing on the plant. The only thing I can think of is ants eatting them or killing them some way.Any body have any ideas?

Sorry to hear that Don. Has this happened with more than one brood of cats? Maybe there's just something passed on to them that's causing them to die. Maybe a later brood will not have the same problem. Just grasping...

KK,They keep laying in the same places near the real tender tips of the plants. So it's real difficult to tell.Itmay be your right because just after posting the thread I went out and looked and there is afew more cats on the leaves so I'll keep an eye on them and see if your right, thanks

I've got a sulfur but haven't been able to get close enough to see what kind. It looks like solid yellow without any other markings. What would that be?

Right now I have an Io Moth pupa and three Giant Swallowtail Cats in my little butterfly house. Karen
