First color............

This is one of my hybrid croton seedlings,I taught myself how to pollinate these babies, couldn't find any pics on how to do it.The seeds didn't germinate till I learned to soak them overnight THEN plant. The seeds look just like miniature castor bean seeds.Same kind of seed pods, cept no spines on these. This seed was planted 7-06 and just now showing color. The pro's tell me now that they can take several years before the final true color comes out..so will see what we get.Has narrow leaves like the mother so far. Many have just green leaves with no markings so far.

Extremely interesting. I meet Dr Brown the guy who wrote the book on Crotons a few years back. He had a ton of interesting forms. It seems no one can ID them very easily and that no one seems to know what is what. Fairchild gardens in Miami had started a collection with some very interesting forms when Craig Allen was their. I am not sure if they still have them but they were extremely colorful. I have tried to stay away from most due to wanting them all if I got started but one my friend sold me was amazing its called RED? One of the most amazing forms I have seen. . Good luck with your work.

How nifty Kyle...I have started to covet them, as well.... I drive around Hilo and knock on doors asking for cuttings... I've met the most interesting people that way!!!!
