I was repotting hybrid cross hibiscus seedlings today and Ta Da!! a first flower bud, looks to be a small flower when it blooms, but who knows. The tag just says mix..that means when I collected the seeds early on, I didn't record WHO they came off of.So I labeled them mix.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Donna, I get antsy waitin on first bloomers..drives me nuts! LOL

(Zone 11)

Kyle, how old is your seedling that has its first bloom?
I think I read that it takes around 6-9 months for seedlings to bloom for the first time.
Does that sound right to you?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

That sounds about right, although genetics make a difference, some seedlings can take years to bloom the first time. Those get dumped.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Way to go, Kyle. I can't wait to see what you get. So exciting!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I bet it will be beautiful. *open* *open* *open*

How about the one with red stems behind the budded one? That looks like it will be a neat one.

Interesting veins, leaf shapes and red stems too! Oh WOW!!!!

First dibs on cuttings (in a few years :-)))) ).

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

won't take years I hope, maybe by next spring. :-) Of course I'll have to cull plants too if I don't like em...

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Ah hem. You KNOW we'll put you up on murder charges if you don't check with us first to find them an adoptive homes...

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I agree with Tess. We do not allow hibiscus murder on this forum!!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Would that be hibisucide?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Ahhh...my public.. will do.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

uh oh, guys, we're giving him a big head now...

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Tess I am sure it will be ok as long as our names are on the cull list. Right??

After we recieve them we will have the HPS go and we will take custody of the rest of his babies ;o)

How are you doing? Are you coming back to houston?? Huh? Huh?

(Zone 11)

Kyle, have you had any blooms from your seedlings yet ?

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

This is going to be exciting to watch. I agree with ilovejesus99 *open* *open* *open* ;-)

Several have bloomed already but none worth keeping until this one......Has large flowers of a deep coral with a bright pink center slight waffling of the petals, lasts 2-3 days depending on the temps.is about 28 inches tall and has about 20 more buds on it, every branch has buds on the tips.Flower is about 6-7 inches wide most times. hard to photograph because of the color. This one I will keep, have already started cuttings of it.

I need to set a temp name for it.

Beautiful, just beautiful. Coral flowers, with their little touch of red, orange and pink always remind me of autumn sunsets. I think you have yet another winner there Kyle.

(Zone 11)

I like your new flower, it kind of reminds me of "President Red".
And if it lasts for 2-3 days that is fantastic. I have one pink that has flowers that
last for 2-3 days and because of that it seems to always be covered with hot pink blooms.
