Fiddling around with my H. imperialis, I remembered something I learned a while back...and I tried it. It worked.
When the plant is not growing and just sitting like bad breath on the table...pot it UP. Of course, not if it is newly rooted...but I find H. imperialis likes lots of room in it's pot...and I put a pinch of Crushed Coral in the pot, too...per the advice of Michael Miyashiro. After 2 weeks...lots of new growth and happy campers all. Just thought I would pass this on...

Worked for me, too. My varigated carnosa (can't remember which name it is) just sat there for several months. I potted it up into a new "prettier" pot and Voila! It not only started growing, but got it's first bloom. So much for being pot bound....

Me, too!
Just recently re-potted my tiny Imperialis plant.....it's *finally* growing!
Interesting, Sue...I didn't think the thinner stemmed hoyas would do the same...I still keep mine potbound. What I have found is that sometimes just repotting a hoya, somehow, can jolt it into growth when it has sat around like a bump. I did that to a couple of plants and it did work.
Imperialis is a funny one. I remember my first one just simply did NOT root/grow and someone told me to get it as warm as possible...so I put it on a stack of boxes in the GH where the air was the warmest...and, yup, it rooted and grew like topsy. A couple of others I find with that same requirement is H. aff. albiflora and H. calycina - both seem to really like to be potted UP early and get lots of food and water.....
Good going, Nan...!!!
Thanks for the info Carol, I have one that grew like a weed and now all of a sudden it has stopped. I will check out it's root system to see if it's potbound. Lordie knows it's hot enough for her !!!
It won't show her roots cramped...she is sneaky like that!!!
