Mop Head

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Attached is a photo of 'Mop Head', whose 'do' resembles the top of a white,
kitchen mop, he is a young, Sultan roo(ster). If he was a Golden Retriever,
he would be about 18 mos. Mop Head is hopelessly in love with a Bantam
hen, but we do not know which one. We think, Little Hen, the one to the left,
inside the door, being held by 'Rue', the doorman, the Bantam roo, who
'sired' all 8 of the 'babies' inside, and is the hubby of the three adult hens,
including Little Hen. It's possible that Mop is in love with one of the 8 babies,
about 4 or 5 months old. It's a waiting game. Each night, after Mop goes to
sleep on the ladder, right outside the coop of his true love(s). I go out and
take him into the pen where he slept, until he fell, mop over heels, in love
with the Bantam hen(s), and I deposit him with the two Sultan hens, and
other 'juveniles'. Each day, I think Mop will take a break, but for 7 days, his
devotion has been steady, we will see...

Sweet story. I wish my roosters were sweet!

Thanks, Z!!! Sweetness, we're thinking, has something to do with size. All of our Bantams are sweet, including Rue, who takes an active part raising his chicks, there are a couple of little ones that sleep with him and stay right by his side outside. Seems like, the bigger they get, the more testy the roos become. We are also told that pure breds are sweeter than those that are mixed, and that is true with ours...happy Friday!!

OMG, CC, thank you so very much, being a Vogue girl that you are, Mop and I are most flattered!! Mop is a total pet, but if you hear of a call for a Sultan roo, Mop might be the man. This I know, he has a sweet, yet confident attitude and he's easy to manage. That is why I go to the chicken yard each night and crate him, so that a varmint won't make a Sultan sandwich outta him...
