No, it's not an okra on steroids, it's an annual (here anyway) whose roots secrete a mucilagenous "goo" that has been used to suspend fibers in water in papermaking. Very easy to grow. This bloom is 6 inches across.

OK, you all prolly knew this, but this one is now Abelmoschus manihot. O well.
It's also a perennial, though maybe a bit on the tender side.
