At least in my backyard! I have had a couple hummingbirds visiting my H. fungii blooms, a first for me. Couldn't get a pic of that because every time I would go outside to take one the little guys would fly away. Also had a nice little family of cardinals set up shop in my variegated H. kerrii....here is a couple pics of mamma and babies http://community.webshots.com/photo/171170481/2635203020044472573VuxyLv http://community.webshots.com/photo/171170481/2447067240044472573IpHsKz . Last but not least....a nice big toad just loves hanging out in my H. waymanae http://community.webshots.com/photo/171170481/2517947060044472573uTMjmA . Enjoy!

critters who seem to love hoyas....
Kim, That is too cool! I'm so over protective with my hoya I would probably missed the experience! The only thing I can find living with my outdoor (for the season) hoyas is a spidey or ten.
Thanks for sharing! -joanne
I have lots of spider and snails. The snails are a nightmare.
Cute photos!
oh, kim...THAT IS JUST TOO TOO NEAT!!! I get Witch Moths and Wolf Moths visiting...but no one makes a day care center. :(
Grasshopppppers... They are all over my hoya's. It's like they tuck themselves in for the night. I sprayed Bayer rose spray all over the plants, because I seen some leaf munching going on. Then I realized that all the Monarchs wouldn't land on them either. Wasp really seem to like mine too.
Awe that is so cool, Kim. I can't believe there is birds nest in your hoyas. That is the coolest thing ever!
Ann
That is really amazing, Kim. The toad looks very fat and happy. Great shots. Did you have any problem with the momma cardinal when you were shooting?
The only thing I get is spiders... The photos are great! Thanks for sharing!

That is the neatest thing! I have seen a few hummingbirds trying them out. I get a lot of wasps and butterflys too. No one has ever made a nest in them though.
Marcy
Thanks all! Markroy.....I took pics of the mamma bird through my door with a zoom because if i stepped outside she would get upset and fly into the tree squawking at me. The babies grew quickly...within a few weeks they were gone.
:) Kim
Kim...how did you water that plant with the nest in the middle of it like that?
Ann...that frog is too cute! Mairzee....I watered it very carefully...lol. There was a bit of space between the nest and the plant so I just sort of wedged the watering can in there. It wasn't easy!
:) Kim
Cool Froggy, Ann - looks totally at home!
That's just too cute!!
Tooo cool!
Really neat.
This is a resident of http://froggarden.blogspot.com/ an Eastern Sedgefrog (Litoria Fallax) it seems to like the H. carnosa leaf. They only grow to about 25mm (1 inch) one of our favourite frogs in the garden. Roy
Oh how cute!!!
Roy, that looks just like the frog that likes to hang out in my carnosa as well. It's a perfect spot for those little guys.
Oh, man, I'm greeeen with envy! My mom had a nest of wittle birdies in her carnosa last year. It was so adorable to watch them grow and learn to fly... EVERYone should experience this at least once during their lifetime. It's something you won't soon forget!...
The frogs, the gecko... toooooo cute!! My ex was in the USAF and we lived on Guam for a couple of years back in the early 80's. I remember the first time I awoke to a sound I can only describe as a "kissy-kissy" sound... Know what I mean?? Like if you're calling a puppy over - "kissy-kissy"?? As it turns out, geckos come in to your home like spiders or mice and "hang out" on the walls, occasionally making the "kissy-kissy" sound. When I figured out what it was, I SOOO enjoyed the little buggers! I got back here and wanted one, but through research learned they really don't do well in cool environs like we have here. Ah, well... **sigh**... guess I'll just have to enjoy the memory...
Great pics!

back when I lived in an apartment, I hung all my hoyas out on the covered porch. one day, I noticed some birds hanging out on the deck. I took down my ds-70 to water it and discovered the beginnings of a nest. the only problem was that the birds were shredding the leaves. out went the beginnings of the nest. two days later, they had rebuilt their nest and continued shredding the leaves. I stuck toothpicks in the middle of the pot to discourage any feathery butts from landing. a few days later I came back to find that the birds had yanked up all the toothpicks and had resumed nest construction. 4 times I loaded that thing with toothpicks to thwart the birds....every single time they just yanked them out.
the hoya was relocated inside and AWAY from naughty birds.
a non-hoya side story is the time I stuck my hand in a pothos pot to check the moisture level. I felt feathers. sure enough.....a nest
Kim, That is so cool. We had a Red Bird build her nest outside our window. She built it right under the edge of the roof though. She weathered a major rain storm. One day I came out and the nest was empty. No eggs. I figure a snake got them. It was sad. I had hoped to see them raised.
