My chickens free range in my backyard..
Standard Barred Cochins
Pics of my Chickeys
Lovely pictures; lovely birds. And what a nice life they appear to have!
Here is a pic of their pen..I don't have a pond for them either so I use what I have..A small whiskey barrel liner!!
I built their coop but but don't have the roof done yet..I put chicken wire all over the frame except for the bottom which I use 1/2 hardware cloth...My wire I use to keep them in is 4 foot tall...
Really pretty. Have you clipped their wings? -- that's not a super high fence.
My runner ducks are have not tried to even fly out yet... I don't clip wings..will put a mesh over the run...
Duh! You said that already! a little slow today, sorry...
I have 7 foot fence for my birds but am a bit worried about the hawks coming through next month...
LOL....oh well...hope the hawks stay away...
moodene, are the only chickens you keep cochins?
I was given eggs to hatch to these breeds I know they are out there but haven't figured them all out yet..lol...

great pics. How much space do you give for your ducks?
I am enlarging their pen cuz I just recieved them 2 weeks ago..and was getting them used to going into their house...and making their pen bigger round..with a mesh on top..
I think that I am missing something. would a 15' X 15' area sufice for say 6 to 7 ducks?
I have 7 ducks right now..hoopstyle house( 16 x 12) with a yard..the outside run will be built after that..is my goal to have for them...I will take a pic of my peacock house to show ya what the house will look like...
I am very interested in how it looks. I am still researching city ordinance to see if I could have ducks. I am only on a 5th of an acre and dead in the middle of city limits. If not 6 or 7 maybe 2 or 3. Backyard is being taken up with planters and such but I am more than willing to take away for some animals. T least animals that produce something in return for my companionship. (eggs)
Plus I am gathering info. for my sometime in the future move to my own homestead outside of the sity grid. Pics and ideas are what I seek, well............... friends too I don't want to leave that out.

Thank you, they are sweeties!!
Moodene, your mystery hen is beautiful! She's a pin-up, LOL.
The mystery chicken looks like a blue cochin. We had some a while back.

"San Antonio, TX. Up to 5 of any kind of fowl, any gender, per household. Must keep in a pen, 20 feet from any other dwelling."
Jozeeben, You are awesome. I called SAPD, Code Compliance, and even Health and Wellfair Dept. Yesterday and No one wanted to answer my questions. up to 5 of any fowl and 20 feet away from any dwelling. I'm pushing it with the distance (my property is only on 1/5 of an acre. but I think I can do it. I am only looking for about 4-5 khaki camps ducks so not worried about the no. of fowl. OH--- and I got to wait until I can find a local hatchery, I have looked on the web and found good hatcheries, but they all require a min. quota of at least 12-20. I only need 4-5.

You can usually get them at flea markets or other outdoor market. The co-ops usually carry baby chicks in the spring. I'd recommend all females if going with chickens since the roosters aren't good for anything except eating unless you plan to hatch your own eggs. Besides being noisy, they can get mean as they get older, protecting their flock.
I'd recommend wire under the roost with a big tray for the droppings & clean out often into a hot composter with straw, kitchen scraps, weeds, yard waste to keep the flies from being a problem.
Great photos, Moodene! Those birds have it good.
