Happy Birthday Connie. Hope you have a wonderful day!

I made it to three nurseries yesterday and I finally found something to put in the pot by thr dront entry. It's not what I wanted, but it turned out pretty good and well do until I can get exactly what I want. It'll look better when it gets a couple of weeks growth and fills in a bit more. I going to another nursery with a friend this morning to help her find something for her "dead" pots. Who knows, maybe I'll find something else I can't live without! My pot is planted with Magilla Perilla, Persian Shield, croton, salsa jasmine and the squiggly thing didn't have a name on it, so I don't know what it is.

Happy Birthday Connie!

Crow, That squiggly thing is Juncus, it like lots of water! I'm thinking of moving mine under a leaky faucet, it hasn't done so well for me in a normal garden setting. I'm sure you'll have better luck:) I've seen Persian Shield for a few years and always thought it was a bit gaudy. My DD talked me into buying a few this spring.I'm so glad she did, it looks so beautiful with everything.

I love that Juncus plant and have been contemplating getting some for some really watery setting here at the house. It's got such a wonderful texture and vaguely alien look -- I love what it adds to a pot.

Thanks for the ID on squiggly thing. Looking back at my original posting, I'm amazed anyone could understand it. I was in a hurry and my touch typing suffered greatly!

Susannah, do you have any other information on the juncus? I've searched it in plant files and come up empty using Juncus as both the common name and cultivar name. I'd appreciate anything more you could tell me about it.

Happy Birthday to you, Connie! Know it will be a great one.

Crowellli.....The plant you're wondering about....I've always known it's common name to be corkscrew rush. It likes boggy areas.....

Happy Birthday Connie, hope it"s a good one.

Crowelli, i love the different textures in your pot. I find myself focusing on texture more and more in deciding what to plant and where... nancy

Susannah, I bought one of the Corkscrew Rush or Juncus plants and the lady had it titled "Bad Hair Day". LOL! I have it in shallow water in my Koi pond. It hasn't grown much, but then I haven't had it long, just got it early Spring.

Edited to say, forgot to compliment you on the whole thing!! It looks great, a whole lots better than dead pots. LOL! I have a few of those too. The Perilla will be huge in no time. It is so hardy, I love it! You can clip and have more of that everywhere in no time.

Heh -- I think this curly plant gets a LOT of popular names. At a local organic nursery (my neighborhood addiction) they call it "Fiber Optic Plant". :-D They actually have the pots sitting in a fountain on pebbles at the bottom of the water basin.

I just like its wild look. Don't have any, but fancy it.

Hello All....

Went to church, then went out to eat with 8 of my family at my current fav restaurant here in Austin: Taverna on 2nd Street in the new shopping district.

Thanks for all the birthday greetings....so nice of you...and it does "soften " the blow of turning 55!!!

I bought 5 of the corkscrew rush and have left them in the pots because I really don't have a "boggy area" to plant them in.

My brother and his family gave me another birthday present ( in addition to the wonderful camera that I got back in April!!). It was an "Australian Tree Fern"...about 5 feet tall!! I need to go to the Plant Files and read...going....

Good morning! I am not too excited that it is MONDAY, but I am up and trying to get alert enought to care. LOL! I think I did way too much work in the yard yesterday and caused my back to hurt all night. I was up and down and tossing and turning trying to get cofortable. I got the long flower bed mulched yesterday and the plastic that is under the landscape stones cut back. After the yard is mowed I will post some pictures (maybe).
I did take time to print some pictures yesterday of my great nephew for a frame my DH bought several months ago. Just seems I don't have time to do anything lately.

Sheila...I don't know if you will ever need a new mattress, but DH and I sized-up to a king bed last year and bought the Temper-Pedic (sp?) foundations and WOW....some nights I awake in the same position I went to sleep in!!! And I used to toss and turn like crazy!!! It's really fabulous!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Is that the "sleep number" bed? We have thought about it, but never checked into it. Was it expensive?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

No..not "sleep number".....that one uses air inside to regulate the softness/hardness on each side. The TP one was invented for NASA...used on the space missions...and is foam!! Memory foam...and yes, it's expensive, but they are getting cheaper all the time as more people buy them! Just check at your local mattress stores...ask for Temper-Pedic...try it....I think they have a guarantee that if you sleep on it for a month and don't like it, you can return it!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I just now am seeing a commercial for it at Mattress Firm, I will need to check it out. I like a firm support, so I am not sure that sinking-in feeling will suit me. Thanks

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

No...no...there is no sinking-in feeling! And it's very firm support. AND...you know how, as we get older, one of us seemingly always is getting up and down...or tossing and turning in bed?? You feel absolutely NOTHING from the other side of the bed!!! It's amazing!! Please go test it at MF...you will be amazed!!
