This was toddling about my compost pile (read: pile of oak leaves)... I'm guessing he's not fully grown (check out the "wings"), but I'm wondering what he is.
It was just interesting to see something other than the creepy roach-like beetles (which I'm assuming ARE some form of roach, no ID needed on those, thank you [shudder]) which normally inhabit my leaf pile.
CLOSED: Baby Buggy?
Cicada nymph, emerging from the ground to hatch out into an adult.
I just found this picture on Google: http://mulubinba.typepad.com/mulubinba_moments/cicada.jpg
Adult: http://i1.treknature.com/photos/482/chorus_cicada.jpg
There are several species of cicadas that vary in size and appearance, so I'm not going to guess what yours is.
Thanks, Tom -- I don't need to know species, "cicada nymph" is plenty. ;)
