I need a life

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Where has everyone been hanging out yesterday and today. Very few posts yesterday on this forum and only a few today.,Guess I better go and sit at the window and look for rain clouds the rest of the day. Ho Hum here how about you. To hot to fish to hot to golf and to hot to garden.

Everything has quit blooming. The lantana usually blooms into late fall is cooked. The hibiscus also. I do have a few phlox with blooms and some cladiums, cosmos, and cloeus. The brugs are blooming but the bloom is gone in one day when the 100 degree heat hits them.
I did manage to get this picture this week before the heat got the blooms.

Gosh, Jim. It looks like you're serving your brugs up lightly toasted! :-( What blooms here shrivels up and falls off in a day's time because of the heat. We'll hope for better when fall comes.. right? Hang in there.

Yep, pretty quiet here too. Luckily it has cooled down a bit, my Brugs are in between flushes. I hate it when it gets nearing 100. Too hot to do anything except go sit in the swimmin hole. Bj

Hanging lol

Hi Jim. Around my garden I'm fighting spider mites on brugs. and Dahlias, and trying to keep the pots watered. The unrelenting heat and humidity does not allow me to stay outside longer than necessary, and I get at least one call a day from a family member reminding me to stay inside. :) I was very surprised last evening to find two flowers on MM had opened. The color is not as deep as I would like but they opened. My tropical hibiscus all are forming big beautiful buds, but then I find them on the terrace floor the next day due to the heat. None are opening.

Tussee that is so bad.

Hey Barb did I promise you one of the peanut butter plants? (or was that a peanut butter sandwich)? Well I think I did on a posting somewhere on Dave's. Here is a picture of it just for you. The blooms smell like cloves and the leaves when you crush them smells like peanut butter. Bring bananas with you if it was the sandwich.

It's been nasty too, here in South Carolina .. the only thing blooming are the canna lily and roses. Luckily we've been getting some rain in the afternoons, but never enough .. just enough to make the grass grow tho .. my water bill for last month was twice the norm. All of you along the SE Atlantic states may remember that it was like this last year as well around this time. The picture was taken Thursday round 2pm.

My Rosamond x Dr. D brug has not stopped flowering in spite of the heat. She has not been flowering in flushes but continuosly ever since I posted her on the following thread. I'm amazed. Her leaves are a little yellow at the tips but she has been such a miracle child.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/627835/

My x candida pink has still kept up her 4-6 week flushes. Creamsickle has blessed me with an occasional flower or two here and there.
Other than these 3 brugs there's not much happening in my brug world. Not even insect problems.

Sooooo ...
* I've replaced all the screen on my porch.
* I'm knee deep in stuff in the attempt to clear out and clean up my garage. Finally called Salvation Army to come and pick up the old refrigerator and stove that's been sitting in there for over 2 years.
* I've been chasing bugs for pictures.
* Buying new plants of all kinds that hopefully I will get planted before they die in their pots.
* I'm cleaning my deck that is knee deep in glass totem, hypertufa and cement projects.
* I thoroughly cleaned my bedroom ceiling fan that had a foot of dust fuzzies ... hee! Took the 4 glass globes off of it and painted them with glass paint. Turned out so pretty.
* I have a batrillion stained glass projects in the works.

* And waiting patiently for my 5th grandbaby ( a girl) that is due any time :)

Life is hot right now but so wonderful! :)

Thanks for the photo, Jim. I like Lord Baltimore any time of the day! My Mother always made me peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I still make them, but they do not seem to taste as good as I remember hers.
Vicky, I may have to take a nap after reading all that your doing now - feel so tired. :) But, after 22 years I cleared out my garage early this spring and a workman took away three very full pickup loads of junk I had been side stepping or tripping over.
Hope I'm sure you will have some lovely blooms this fall when things cool down. The heat is depriving many of us the flowers we anticipated for the summer.

LOL!!!! Vicki, I need a rest after reading your post! You GO, gal!!

I would throw away all the junk around here but I don't want to throw away the kids inheritance.
Vivkie that is a lot of work for one little lady.

Jim ... hee!! Kids inheritance.
It is alot of work that I'd gladly pawn off on someone else if I could just catch a man that was under 90 years old and has a good back. lol!
I had to attack the garage because my washing machine died and there was no way for the old one to be moved out and a new one brought in.
Had to do the screen work because the raccoons wouldn't stay off the porch and out of my house.
Had to clean the deck because it was embarassing when the power company comes around to read the meter ... ha!

Sometimes a girl's just gotta do what a girl's gotta do even if it means breaking a nail. :)

And yes Barb and Tussee I need a nap too. Good idea. Think I'll go do that right now :)

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Great photo of Ins. Pink.

I still had Isabella and Golfito (isabella) blooming and taking the heat fairly well until thursday. Every bloom ended up fried. I had never seen flowers on my brugs look like they did. I wish I would have gotten a pic before plucking every nasty flower lastnight. I still have some brugs trying to bloom. The flowers have just been setting there not opening. I look for some to be opening tonight since it has cooled down some. This past week has been brutal.

I have been hiding out upstairs in the AC after doing the morning watering. I couldn't use the laptop until I cleaned up the trojans my little one had acummulated.

We will be playing catchup the next couple of days in the yard since we didn't get anything accomplished this week in the heat. DH says he is going to have to make 2 passes with the mower to some spots in the yard. The plants are taking a beating but the grass won't give in. The weeds have even been wilting.

I feel like a slug after reading all you're doing, Vicki!!

It's now been 2 weeks since I last mowed, and I usually mow once a week. I just don't want to mow a bunch of dust right now. :)

My unknown pink started blooming Sunday night, and has had one or two blooms every other night since then. Like everyone else in this heat, the blooms have only lasted a day or so.

We did have relief from the heat for one day - yesterday. Now, it's back to 90 with 40% humidity.

So, I'm out there watering all the potted plants twice a day. I kinda find it relaxing though.

Not much else to do outside. Japanese Beetles are gone, and I don't have any other garden foes, so that's a happy thing.

Cherry tomatoes are ripening like crazy now. And the hibiscus, mandevilla, princess lilies and roses are all happily blooming now. And, I've got tiny buds on my double purple datura now. :)

It's even quiet on the rental property front -- knock on wood!! Oh, and a friend came over and put the shiny sealer stuff on my patio on Monday. It looks so good now with the baby brugs, hibiscus, datura and mandevilla!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I have a few blooms in my jungle, altho the morning was so hazy from all the high heat and the pictures aren't too good. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0BZNWTFu5YsXWw

Wow, Ada, what a treat to view your pictures. You have beautiful gardens and a myriad of plants that I would only dream of having. I enjoyed that. Thanks!

Hiya!!

Jim,
You and Bobbi could always come visit me in the frozen tundra, lol. I think our high today was 85ish and low 70's tonight. Its fantastic!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

WOW Jim, that picture is just gorgeous. My yard is screaming for water but I am just being too lazy. And besides I am afraid I too will catch mites!

Ada, your pictures are just great. You are a true gardener!

I on the other hand have been goofing off all weekend. Today we went to Napa Valley with friends and went wine tasting. It was a beautiful day with a soft breeze. It was all just beautiful.

PS: ICK to peanut butter. I have never eaten it. Double ick!

Here is the view from the wine tasting veranda at Joseph Phelps Vineyards. Almost as good as a view of the ocean.

Hi All!! Today we had a high of 87. It was wonderful!! But all of my brugs have cooked. What blooms I've had look like wet noodles,Eternity has bloomed through all the heat, not very may leaves but she still bloomed. V, I am also waiting for my fourth grandchild, due any time. Also have one coming in Nov.

The only thing, if you did all that work V, you must have a darn good airconditioner!! LOL!

Ada, your gardens are wonderful!! Lots of hard work there.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Melanie I never dreamed my one and only yungun would pop out so many little people ... lol! She loves being a Mommy.... ages 10 (girl) , 8 (twin boys) , 5 (girl). This new baby girl is her last. ... whew! :) It's a zoo when you go bye bye ... lol!

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Vicki, congrats, by the way!
Your daughter must have the patience of a saint!! I bet the twins are a lot of fun though.
I just have one daughter, who'll be 9 on the 23rd and she runs me ragged!! :) But, I would not trade her for the world.
Congratulations again on your new granddaughter.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Ada thanks for the link. Really enjoyed the trip.

Barb, bring the bananas I have mayo just don't grow my own. lol

Jen so good to hear from you. Hope things are getting back to normal. Sure miss you posting. Quit working all those long hours and spend more time with us. Bobbie said hi. Wish we could visit that would really be a treat.

Kell that is really a relaxing picture. I can visualize sitting at looking down at all that beautiful country side.

Vickie, you have it made with all those grandkids at one time.
I bet you are at wreck when they come and then leave.
I had a sister, dead now, she was older than another sister and myself and had 4 kids. Once when we went for a visit and all the kiddos lined up for out goodbye kisses my sister went before me giving them all a bye kiss and hug. I followed right behind her and when I got through kissing them I kissed my sister and told her bye. Now I was about 12 at the time and my sister was 14. I was ready to leave her there. LOL Made a family memory that is still talked about today.
Good luck to your daughter and the birth.

Lily, it is really hot and seems it is everywhere this year. I have all my brugs in full sun, mainly because I don't have that much shade and I have never had a problem over the last 6 years with them. Making up for lost time this year.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Babies are so great :) Identical twin boys at 8 are sooooo ... ah ... ah ... ummmm .... hmmmm ... well let's just say they are snakes and snails and puppy dog tails .... eeek! Boys are from Mars :) !

Jim ... you make me laugh ... lol!
When I was not much younger than your 12 years I was in a hurry to leave for school one morning. I snatched up the family cat to kiss her goodbye ... right square dab in the rear end. Family memory to this day ... hee!

I've been watering 2-3 times a day, spraying for broad mites and fertilizing. If it weren't for the below and a few more things being in bloom I would STOP all this nonsense and curl up in my favorite chair with a good book and a glass of iced sweet tea.

Hi Judy. I'm doing the watering/broad mite thing, but have held off feeding them in this heat.. don't know whether it's the right thing or not. They either wilt or turn yellow and fall off - buds.. blooms.. leaves. Those blooms of yours would keep me going, too. They sure are purty!!

Barb

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Vickie, You make me laugh too. Did the cat purr louder or run off?

Vickie we have three sons and there was less than 5 years from the first to the last. Wait until it comes time for them to buy insurance. You or they better get ready to second mortgage the home. Then oldest gets a lot of speeding tickets and laying drag, the second one hits a police car, the third one totals a car. I was in the proverbial poor house with no way of getting out.

Speaking of fertilizing I was thinking it was time for me to give mine some 13-13-13, couldn't locate any 15, and I didn't do it this morning because I didn't want them trying to keep from dying from the heat and also trying to grow. Maybe sub some bloom buster when it cools down. I did notice last night as I was watering that they are still producing buds.

Hi Judy, nice pictures.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Judy your pictures are so pretty. Makes me want to come to your house and sit around with that glass of tea and watch you work. :) Or you can come to my house and I'll sit around with that glass of tea and watch you work. :) ... please bring tea .... and your flowers too lol!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

She purred and smiled. ... of course.

Oh my gosh ... I don't want to think about car insurance for these little boy monsters. They'll be driving before they're 10 at the rate they're going. Their oldest Paris Hilton wannabe sister will probably bribe them to take her to the mall any day now ... rofl! I love my babies :)

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

The reason I'm fertilized them all.....

On July 19 this Frosty, had a full flush. As soon as the flush finished we planted it in the ground, 7/25. I put everything but the kitchen sink in the bottom of the planting hole: alfalfa, 20-20-20 time release and a little 13-13-13 for some now action. Used cheap $1 a bag top soil to fill in around the root ball.

Here she is today .... some fast flushing.

All my brugs have wilted and lost leaves. Of the 8 we put into the ground on 7/25 in the same manner as Frosty, 4 have had nice flushes and have small buds forming.

I am so jealous of all of you. I have 3 burgs that are growing but not much. The one that started having buds has shed all the leaves and I mean every one of them fell off over night. I have no idea why. It was in the back yard my otheres are in the front.
Good work with the burg she/he is beautiful.
