Please help me identify this mystery plant.
I believe it is a bromeliad because -
1) a newer growth started and the older growth died
2) the leaves around the bloom turned colors prior to blooming (similar to a tillandsia).
The plant is about 4.5" tall
Additionally, it has always had a very small root system and has grown in a 1.5" clay pot.

Bromeliad - yes, and it is a Guzmania for sure. It looks like lingulata, one of the smaller Guzmanias but it's hard to be sure.
