Local Berry Picking

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

I grew up in Michigan which is vastly different than Texas I know.

Mom and I used to go to strawberry farms and pick berries to our heart's content and stomach's delight =).

Are there really any such u-pick farms around San Antonio anyone knows about? Do berries even do well on large farms in our heat?

You are near Poteet, which claims to be the Strawberry Capital, but I think the crop is ready much earlier in the year. Check out this link: http://www.strawberryfestival.com/

Thanks patrob!

I've been going to Sweet Berry Farms, near Marble Falls, for years. But they've gone downhill so bad, I'm looking for a new pick-your-own!

I've been up to Marble Falls, beautiful town! Sorry the berry farm went to the pits.

I'm with patrob...Tir_...about the only berry picking that I know of is in Poteet. I've been to their strawberry festival...lots of fun...and everyone selling stawberries on street corners! :)

I think GD mentioned that he grows strawberries out at his place...but again, he lives south of SA...much the same sort of terrain and soil that Poteet claims.

TxT: Did the berries from Poteet run about the same price as stores?

We have a berry farm near by in Edom,TX. Too far for you to drive. I just wanted to mention them because the name is sooo cute....."Pick'em N Edom"

The poteet strawberries are at least two times the price of other ones. They are good but I usually don't have the money to buy them at those prices.

Here's a list of Pick Your Own places in TX. Dunno how accurate it is.
