Garden Lighting

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I perused the forums here at DG and decided to post my question / discussion topic here. I'm nearing the end of my landscaping in the front of my house and am now researching lighting. Electric lighting is expensive and perhaps wasteful of energy, so I went to Home Depot and bought a box of 4 SOLAR, plastic, "amber" path lights for 20. Very reasonable...2 year guarantee. The problem: they look like little orange pumpkins at night because the light is very weak and very orange--only one LED light per unit-- .

So...I boxed them up, returned them, and went to Smith and Hawken yesterday and bought 2 "experimental" boxes of lighting. (on sale...20% off rebate when sale starts next week, but 10 times more expensive!!). One box contained 2 path "spotlights" with a solar panel that is separate. They have very nice white light...6 LED units per lamp. The other box contained 2 "spotlights" with the same setup and also nice white light. These are aluminum with a bronze finish. I didn't see a "guarantee" on the box or insert, but I'm sure S&H will stand behind their products, as usual.

Does anyone have any input on this topic before I go buy more of these? Something you have that is effective and that I can still buy? Any warnings...pros/ cons about solar lighting? I do have bright sunny areas for the panels to recharge daily.
