I've never done any butterfly/moth raising, but we found this little guy on my sunflowers tonight. What is he and can I raise him? Right now he's in an aerated jar with a stick and some sunflower leaves.
I feel like a kid...LOL.
Thanks for your 'expert' eyes.
P.S. We named him Herbie, Harry just seemed too passe.

Can I raise this little guy?
You could raise him but he's not going to be extremely exciting. He's a Tussock moth but I don't know which kind. There are too many to search thru but I can tell you he's just going to become a moth.
If he was on the sunflower you might try feeding him that. If he doesn't eat it then he might have just been passing thru via the sunflower. They usually eat a variety of things. Sunflower leaves quickly dry out and get crunchy so you will have to either put them in a small vase (make sure he won't fall in the water) or use the green floral foam or floral picks with water.
Thanks konkrete, DH thinks we'll just let the little guy go. He's the only cat we've seen this year (Thornworms don't really count...)
Have a good day!
