I just wanted to acknowledge Ladygardener and Hart for sending me get well cards recently. I am going to hang them on the wall beside my desk. Hart, that silly looking cat is hilarious.
I have also received a card from a friend on another site that I used to frequent. Yahoo Health Lobby is where I have spent hours and hours chatting with some good people. For about two years now, I have'nt been going there but stay in touch with a person or two from the room.
I was fortunate enough to meet several people from that chat room a few years back. The group of chatters try to plan a couple of get togethers a year. I am thankful that this DG group tries to do get togethers too. I missed the plant swap a while back, but hope to be able to attend others as they happen. I also like it when folks post events that they think someone else in the group might be interested in attending.
Is there anything going on before September 7? What has been decided about another plant or seed swap?
Anyway guys - thanks for being there. You are all good people and I feel blessed to be able to participate.
Ruby
so sweet....
You're welcome, Ruby. Hope the seeds made it through okay too.
I don't know what's going on with our plant swap, which was planned for later this month. I haven't seen Jenn posting for weeks and weeks. I'll have to give her a call and see if she's okay.
Oh yeah, forgot to say thank you for the seeds Hart. What exactly are the "bean" type ones? I love primrose but have never tried it from seed. I will have fun doing it. Also please tell me how to plant and care for the "beans."
I hope that you are staying cool enough in this heat. I am definitely in for the afternoon. I did watering of everything this morning early. Most of the house work is caught up, so all I have to do is relax. As far as food goes, it is every man for himself. I made a toss salad and also made meatballs yesterday and there are leftovers from that.
Again, thank you for thinking of me and for sending the seeds. I love getting little goodies like that in the mail.
Ruby
Those are redbud tree seeds. I just stick them in the ground in an area where they would get some shade and when they'll be in the ground over the winter.
Found this online:
Collect the pods of redbud when they turn brown in the fall. Air dry the pods, then remove the seed. Seed of the redbud have hard, impermeable seed coats in addition to dormant embryos. Seed require both scarification and cold stratification before they will germinate. Redbud seed can be scarified by soaking seed in concentrated sulfuric acid for 30 minutes or by submerging seed in boiling water for one minute. Once scarified, the seed should be stratified at 35 to 41°F for 5 to 8 weeks. (Note from hart - this is fancy horticulturalist talk for "stick it in the refrigerator") Seed should be planted promptly at a depth of 1/4 inch.
Thanks for the acknowledgement Ruby, that was also sweet of you to do that.
Stay cool, eat well and think good thoughts. We need to get you through surgery and on the way to healing.
Chris
