I was out "trying" to get a picture of a creepy looking spider in my yard, and this little miss was very busy laying eggs, so I couldn't resist snapping a quick shot.
GF laying eggs
Oh nice catch Lorri
Thank you, Donna. I was happy.
We have had a ton of rain here in Tucson this past week. Washes flooding, etc..but it has brought to us a ton of what looks to be some sort of yellow sulphurs. Haven't had a chance to catch one landed yet, but they are just everywhere. My son said he saw hundreds of them flying yesterday. All headed east. Really amazing!
good headed my way lol
Would ya get a darn picture for me, then? LOL
I have a great big Cassia Alata waiting for them to lay eggs on
They made it here today and started laying eggs on my Cassia Alata.
Nice shot! It kinda looks like it's just suspended in air while laying those eggs. We're getting those sulfurs also...not as numerous as the tons of snout butterflies, but still an unusual number for this time of year. Maybe the same drought/rain cycle that benefitted the snouts in Texas also helps sulfurs.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm guess they passed me by lol
Lorri,
Do you know the variety name of the passion flower the GF is on in the first picture.I had one just like that and the gulfs really liked that ,much more than the other kinds. On mine the label just said passifloria. It has just succumb to nemophoides (sp).I'm trying to root some of the cuttings but you know how that goes. Don
Hi Don...I'm sorry, I don't know the type of passiflora it is. I've been wondering myself. I can try and call the nursery where I purchased it at, and see if they know, but it's been about a year now, so...they might have something different, or none at all. But I'll certainly try for you. I've thought of trying to root some cuttings, but I've not ever done that, and I'm not sure how it would work out, or really how to do it.
Lorri
Thanks Lorri,
I know what you mean about places not knowing what they had last year. Some don't even know about yesterday.I wish I had some advice on how to root passion vine cuttings.I'm experimenting with it myself.I've had alot more failures than success.
Don
Oh, I'm sure I could get plenty of help here on DG about the cuttings. I believe I've asked before...quite some time ago. Doesn't seem to be too difficult to plop a cutting in some water, but it's the "where do I cut" and "what time of year" etc etc that I don't know. Also, I worry that I'll be too busy and forget that it's there, or that I won't have it in a good location and forget it about it that way.
I'm looking to get a couple more passifloras. We have 3 natives here that I'd like, but I need to figure out where the heck I'd put them. Our natives are the mexicana, foetida and bryonoides. Sure are pretty little things
Lorri
Piggypoo, what plant is that which it was laying its eggs in?
PiggyPoo, those are all great pics. the ulta closeup is totally astounding, how did son get so close or is that a magic camera.? At any rate she certainly looks dainty and dressed for the Queen's ball no doubt.
Thanks, Bloom :) No magic camera here. Just a simple little Olympus with a nice super macro on it. He then uses photoshop to do some cropping.
