Would like to have
I suppose that I need to put this in the seed trading category, huh?
I have a blue/purple Columbine - but I don't think it is a wild variety... Of course it started OUT that way :)
You are welcome to some seeds -
Julie
Thanx anyway, Julie. I have been looking for the red natives, as I have the puple. If you know anyone that has them would you keep me in mind? I really would appreciate it.
Nope - my reds are still in infancy - new seedlings just barely 2 inches tall!
Perhaps I will have them in the future - Columbines come in such pretty colors...
I agree! And as we live on an acre+ of woods, I look for as much color as I can get!
how MANY plants WOULD YOU LIKE - they multiply in my flower garden like RABBITS!
See, Music. I told you somebody would have plenty. LOL
Yee Haa!! did I hit the jack pot? Kay, I will take what you can spare (within reason LOL). Do you have 5 - 10 plants? If you do~ I will take them! and will gladly pay for the postage. I don't even know how to go about mailing plants, but I am ready! to. If you would rather send seeds that would by A-okee-dokee, too!
Hart! thanx so much for your help!! This is like Christmas! (can you tell that I am excited?)
Hart, I have a question. I am trying to start some native holly ~ they seem to be going well, but will the columbine grow well beside them? just curious.

The ones I had did very (too well! LOL) well in a bed that was fairly moist and got a lot of shade. The ones I see here growing wild are along the roadside in the national forest near the creek so that would also be pretty shady or at least dappled shade and fairly moist.
I don't think they would do well in full sun or in a real dry spot but maybe Kayjones can tell you if they're growing in those conditions in her garden.
My hollies are in the woods where Jack and I go walking daily. Actually my whole yard is partial shade. The sun shines on our little plot for about 3 hours maybe 4, so shade is no problem. THis is Jack...We spend much time outside, except in this HEAT. As you can tell ~ he's black & cannot tolerate the heat. His "mommy" can't either.
He is such a pretty dog. Didn't you say he was part pit bull? I love pits. I am owned by a very loving and sweet pitty named Java.
Ooooo!do you have a pic of Java? Jack is the sweetest thing...follows me everywhere. He is pit and sharpei, but is built like a pit (actually, they are built quite similar) I took him for his heart worm test the other day (negative test, YEAH!) and he weighs 50 lbs. He's gettin to be a big boy.
That is an absolutley adorable picture of Java and Gus. I have 4 miniature pinschers.. Anyway that blue columbine is gorgeous. How would I go about getting some of them. I am quit a newbie here. I have planted like 5 columbines in my garden and they all died but then to my suprise came back however no blooms maybe next year. I would just die for that BLUE. I dont have much but would be willing to trade, SASE.
Hart! Java is precious! Brendle IS beautiful! Gus is too! Jack will play with one cat (becuz she won't run from him) the rest he chases, becuz they will run from him. How old is Java? There was a brendle female (obviously with pups) that showed up here about 3-4 weeks before Jack was dropped off: I thought that he might be a brendle a few months ago, becuz he was turning reddish/brown in places. But wouldn't ya know it ~ the red/brown patches have dissappeared!
rw, I only have 3 plants and no seeds. If you could be patient until next year I will save the seeds. Or even a couple of plants!. I like to do things in 3's so.... If I have enough...maybe 3 plants. What do ya think?
The plants may not thrive right now when you transplant, but they should return in Spring. I have Columbines growing in my South side full sun garden, & also in a deeply shaded spot. They will grow beneath shrubs, Hollies, etc -they do not seem to mind what amount of sunlight they receive - except the blossoms last a little longer in partial shade. The plants in full sun bloom a little sooner as well. Thius is another reason why I adore these plants - they seem to be happy wherever they land! Of course they must be babied until they get their roots established - after that they are on their own :)
That's great! My hollies are in the pines. The columbines would have dappled sun light. My purple ones are in the yard, but I want native ones for the woods.
