Have native Rattlesnake Orchids to trade. Easy plants at the easiest age. Orchid seeds are extremely difficult. Young plants are difficult. These are 5 year+ plants. A few are blooming. They should all be blooming next July AND August. Quantity of flowers increases with age.
Easy outdoor Orchids zone 5.
Hi,
I am having trouble pulling rattlesnake orchids. What do they look like? What kind of plants are you looking for in trade?
Rachel
Snakeskin leaves:

They bloom in July and August. Flowers increase with age. The five year olds do not have a spike, the sixes do. I understand they can have up to 80 per spike.

These vegetatively spread horizontally. My understanding is that you can crossbreed horizontals.

I am looking for shrubs and sub-shrubs, also natives. I am mostly interested in the Heath Family (Ericales) Wintergreens, Azaleas, etc.
Also variegated, particularly with a white midrib.
Do you still have rattlesnake orchids. Would you like some osrich ferns, they are hardy here in Ohio.
Ostriches are too large. Anything petite and shiny, Selaginella?
No, i have dragons blood sedum, or purple basil ruffles.
Would you like some wild ginger in trade for the orchids?
Enya
Would you have Korean Rock ferns?
Larry
Want to trade for some lady ferns? I have lots of azaleas, but haven't rooted any cuttings yet. Just bought this place late last fall, so I'm just getting started! Be glad to root some azaleas for you, then I'll let you know when they're good to go. Several varieties, too, so there will different ones.
We used to call the rattlesnake orchids "rattlesnake plantain" - just another common name, I guess. I love them!
How about if I buy a couple of Selaginella, or Korean Rock ferns, and have them shipped to you?
UUallace,
I have one starter Korean rock fern. It seems happy in the spot it is in, but no babies yet. I wonder if I should start looking at starting ferns from spores as they don't seem to multiply naturally as fast. Would you have good reference for that?
