CLOSED: "Newbie" looking for sun perennial seeds

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Good morning to everyone. I have spent the last two weeks reading and learning everything that I can from all of you. I have a new garden area that I am ready to start, however I am having a really hard time finding "sun perennial seeds" this time of the year. I have found a few on eBay, but I thought if anyone would know, YOU guys would! I would be glad to send a SASBE or pay for any seeds that will work in my new area. It gets a minimum of 8 hours of HOT Texas sun.............so I am looking for anything durable that will add some color and brighten up my new spot. (besides cactus....lol) Any ideas or options, please let me know or feel free to D-mail me at anytime. I am looking forward to hearing from my fellow DG-ers.
Happy Gardening,
Belinda

I might be able to send a few items your way. We've got the same hot intense sun here in New Mexico, lol.

jessmerritt - - - that was super fast! Glad to have someone who can sympathize with our lovely weather!!!!!!!!!! lol As you can see from the picture, so far my only plant that I have started in the new garden is the easy to grow, sunflower. Anything that you can send would be super, just let me know how much to send your way and if you don't mind sending me a list of what seeds you have, so that I can track what I am planting. Thanks so much for kind offer!
Belinda

A SASBE with 63 cents postage is all that is needed. That way I'll be able to fit several things in. I'm at work now, but later when I'm at home I can dmail you a list of what I can send.

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

GREAT! And thanks again for sharing with a "newbie". I will get your SASBE in the mail today. No rush about the list, and if it is easier for you...............just include it in the package. Make it easy on yourself. I hope to post many pictures next season of all my new goodies! Thanks again,
Belinda

If someone can help with a list of things that would take 8 hours of Texas sun, I am sure I seed that I can part with!! I have too many to plant, that is for sure. Any ideas what would work?

LOL jessmerritt - - - someone always has to be the "comedian" right? Laughter is by far the best medicine! I don't know what half of those plants are...........I've been doing research on each one of them and some of them are not much prettier than my cactus'! lololololol

After looking last night I know for sure I can send

Purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)
Butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa)
Passiflora Constance Elliot
Cosmos
Shasta Daisies
and there's a ton more, too...lol

All of these grow for me in full sun, no shade, 100+ degree desert heat...lol. So, I hope they'll do well for you.

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

SUPER jessmerritt!!!!! I sent you a SASBE yesterday, so you should be receiving it soon. I am looking so forward to watching my new area grow and develop into a beautiful garden that my family can enjoy everyday. I will take anything that you are willing to share with me and give it a whirl. If there is any little "tips" that I need to know about what you send, will you let me know what works best for you, etc? I can't wait to break ground and get started!
Thanks so much,
Belinda (fellow 100+degree gardener) lol

Sounds great...I will get some things together for you also. I have so many seed. I will send Canna seed as well...they will sprout in about three weeks, they are not hard to grow from seed. You can look on the Canna forum for instructions as well. I also have a lot of different wild flowers and hardy hibiscus. Just some of everything. I will start getting them together for you. If you can send me a bubble envelope SASE it will be better, then I can put some larger seed in along with the rest..

Hi Belinda,
I have a whole tin of blanket flower seeds (Indian blanket) that I would be happy to share.

Good Morning Katlian,
Indian blanket seeds remind me of my grandmother's garden when I was a child............what a pleasant memory. I would love to try your seeds. Are you in the addy exhange? If so, I will send you a SASBE today. Thank you so much for sharing.
Belinda :-)

Belinda,
How about some Red Castor Bean.
They handle the full sun here in middle Florida and what's more they are fast growing and produce shade for more sensitive plants underneath them.

I have the wild perennial sunflower that comes up every year, they get about 9' tall, if the finches allow me to get some for you when they go to seed, most of the time they eat the seed before they are even ready lol I'll try and put a stocking over one of the heads today, that is if you want some of these, you can trim them when they start coming up and they won't get as tall.

I will also have some skullcap pretty soon. Probably others will have to check them out.

Hi! I have some Echinacea Big Sky Sundown, if you'd like some of those. Just planted them this year - I just bought this house, so I wanted to add more color. They grew in an area that receives sun all afternoon, and we have several days of temp. 95 degrees and higher. Be glad to send you some for a SASBE + postage. I also have mock orange seeds, if you'd like some of them.
