I have this vine and just love it! I know it's a host for the gulf frittaries but they really chew up my vine! That's the only bad thing about these caterpillars but what do you do. They turn into these pretty butterflies!

My only suggestion is to plant more vines! The cats ate up the first vine I planted, but it came back the next year and sent out runners so I had more vines - each year I get more vines and now I have enough that they out-pace the caterpillars! I love the vines and the butterflies!

Hi onalee and thanks for your advice to plant more. Do you dead head the spent blooms to make more bloom out? And what kind of fertilizer do you use? Thanks.

Hi,
No time to dead head and rarely time to fertilize these huge vines - a couple times a year they'll get some 10-10-10 scattered around, these vines don't need much once they get going. Mine are now to the top of a 40' magnolia tree and pretty much cover it for most of the summer.

They are very tough vines and, once they get started, they can really take off (take over?).
