I know this is a little blury, but this Hummingbird just won't put up with butterflys in HER garden. I spent fifteen minutes watching this aerial dog flight before it occured to me to grab my camera. The whole thing was a little hard to catch....they're kind of quick. The butterfly would wait until she left for a few minutes, and sneak back....All would be well for a while and then the hummer would come swooping in.
So far neither has given up...What a treat for me!

Territorial Hummer
lol mine chased 2 chickadees all the way out to the woods the other day
that's funny! Both stories Lisa & Donna. Mine just hangs out at the feeder all day and swoops close down to my head on his way to the feeder if I'm outside. What huge attitudes for such small things!!
good stories!! they really do think they rule the roost :-))
Yesterday I moved the feeder. That was interesting. It wasn't moved far, just out of the sun into a shadier area maybe 15 feet away. The hummers would come into the garden and head to the place where the feeder had been. They would just hang there, like cartoon critters, looking this way and that, up and down. It took them awhile to find the relocated feeder but theyt did and now all is well. Even the Orioles made the adjustment.
They all absolutely refuse to let me take their picture but I keep trying.
They seem to know not to "bug" the bees. Everything else is fair game.

Heck, the swarm of the lil flying jewels we've been having lately, aren't worried none with the sharing of the flowers with any of the tons of bees or the butterflies - but, are sure nuff still up in arms (wellll, beaks!), in sharing with one another.
Sure been giving me a wealth of opportunities to get some relatively good stop-action shots.
That .. jes had to've been a great treat for ya, lwkbriggs/Lisa. Really like luv the purnurple Monarda (is it?) - aka: bee balm) -?-

Wow, that's incredible! I've gotten to where I take my camera in my pocket now when we do the "yard stroll." Thanks for sharing Lisa. I've never seen a hummingbird yet, but hopefully next year that will change when my new plants are grown :)
