I went shopping again and Pemiento update

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Ok, I went to the USF Botanical Gardens today because in my excitement last time, I forgot to purchase a bromeliad I meant to get. It's Nidularium "Sao Paulo". It caught my eye the last three times I visited so I figured I should just give in and bring it home. Plus, I don't have any of that species, and it looks like it has a flower in the middle. So cool...

Neo. Purple Star. A little pricey at $10 but it's a good size. Allison, didn't you say you wanted this one? Once it starts pupping I'll be happy to trade or give.

Neo. Aurora. Thought this one was a little different so I got it. Plus, it was only $4 and I like a bargain.

Neo. Stormy Weather. Love the name and purple is my favorite color...

Ok this one has a long name, but I liked it. It's a cross of some different ones. Neo. kautskyii x takemura princeps x royal flush. Wow! That's a lot. I can't resist a purple or red one, and this one reminded me of one I have called "Volcanic Sky". They're a similar shade.

Finally, here's the latest on my Neo Pemiento. This photo was taken this morning and as you can see the colors are getting more vivid. The green is turning much darker, and its coloring is more even throughout.

Nice haul. Unlike the Neos, keep the Nid in fairly heavy shade during the Summer.

Hi mellielong,
Do you have an updated pic of the neo pemiento???
I'd love to see it now.
Thanks
Janet

No, but I'll be sure to take one this weekend. I was looking at it the other day and it is really amazing how much it has changed.

Ok, I promised a new pemiento picture and here it is.

And here's a closeup so you can't see my weeds!

And as a bonus, I have a tillandsia that surprised me by blooming. You think you would see it coming but it really seemed like one day it was there and one day it wasn't. By the way, if anyone is attending the Pinellas County RU on Oct 23, I will be bringing bromeliads to give away!

Beautiful ! Love your blooming tillandsia ! MY pemiento was not what I expected for $19.00 plus shipping but it's starting to look better.
Do you have your's in the ground ?
I am really getting to like these plants more and more. You sure got some great prices !

My pemiento is in the ground. In fact, today I moved all my neos around (a little redecorating in the bromeliad garden going on). It's only a few feet from where it was but I think it will get more sun this way. You know, at the USF plant fest this weekend the Bromeliad Guild had pemientos for sale for $8! I was so surprised to see them! I saw a lady pick one up and I had to tell her how great mine was and how it will get even darker, etc. She bought it, of course. I did the same thing with blanket flowers at one of the summer fests. Everytime I saw someone looking at them I would go on and on about how great they are and then people would buy them. I should get a commission!

My Dad saw me moving all the plants around today and he asked, "Don't they get mad if you transplant them and move them around like that?" Of course, I said no. As long as you keep water in the cups and keep the ones that don't like full sun out of it, they're happy as clams. Dad said he liked that kind of plant. Come to think of it, bromeliads are one of the few plants I haven't managed to kill.
