Anyone have Star of Siam ? Please take a look. The pic does not show the subtle grayish cast to the petals .

I had star of siam last year, it didn't make through our winter of all things!, That's definitely not star of siam, sorry :-( If you can at least determine it's green smoke at least you have a named cultivar instead of some unnamed seedling. You should contact your seller, hopefully it's was an innocent mistake.

Thanks for the feedback ! Im sure it was a mix up . . Ive emailed them . Ive had my own plant mix ups in the past that was the result of exactly this type of error ( I recieved a mis-IDed plant and sent it out under the name I was given ) The Star of Siam " plant was small when i recieved it and it was tough for me to get a confirmed ID on the immature pads so I waited and hoped .. I was just SOOO disappointed when it bloomed as I have waited with great impatience to see those lovely Star of Siams blooms !
At least I did'nt already have Green Smoke Which I believe this is . It matches the description given in Mr Slocums water garden book in every regard .
its going to be a great bloomer with 3 open blooms today and 5 below the surface . I just wish it was Star of Siam LOL !

Star of siam is a good one, I was heartbroken when mine didn't make it, it was certainly my favorite last year. Stood up to the heat and sun of AZ and those fabulous pads, the flowers were good, too :-) I hope your seller hooks you up!

Well Ive emailed the sellor 3 times politly describing the problem and asking for a response .So far I have had none AND up untill 2 days ago they were still listing and selling "Star of Siams " on ebay .I dont know if they are and mine was some type of mix up or not but it sure does not look good that they are ignoring me :( the sellor has an ebay store and they are not selling Star of Siams anymore so perhaps the error was innocent ,still a reply would be nice .....on a brighter note I sold a june allison and was able to buy another one from blooming waters on ebay . This plant looks NOTHING like the other "Star of Siam " and it
matches the description for stem/leaf color etc so I think this is Star of Siam and will thrill me when it blooms :)

Sorry you haven't had luck with your seller, but blooming waters is one you can trust.

teresamas,
Who was the seller on ebay? I just ordered some, I hope it's not from the same person!
If you have a shallow area, try Tina, it's beautiful, and has been blooming for me all season long in just a water garden bowl!

Ormond Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I ordered the one that turned out to not be star of siam from aquatic6414 . I hope you didnt buy from the same sellor !
I LOVE Tina :) Ive had her in my courtyard pond since I put it in about 5 years ago ! It does really well in a shallow ledge .Here is a pic

I've heard that ebay seller is actually "aquatic plant depot"- not a recommended dealer of lilies. I didn't know about them early on and bought myself a "not Panama Pacific" and a "not red stemmed thalia" from their online retail site :-(

Ocoee (W. Orlando), FL(Zone 9b)

Oh my! No, I didnt order my new ones from the ebay-er listed above, but HAVE ordered things in the past from him, and didn't get the whole order. I contacted him about what was not included in the box, and he argued he knew it was. I said look I don't want additional stuff, only what I paid for.....I never got it. I've never ordered again from him. There are too many good vendors and happy DG plant sharers , to deal with the ones that drive you buggy and act like youre commiting a crime for expecting what you paid for.....sheesh....
I love my Tina water lilies....I think I may order more because their color just pops! What a great picture Teresamas!

Hey Mary, Tina should readily make babies for you on her pads, has she not done this?

Ocoee (W. Orlando), FL(Zone 9b)

No, nothing yet.....I have her in a very small pot because she's in a dish garden and not in my big pond. Maybe if I move her to a larger area, she will be willing to spread(?)

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

I don't think size matters for this to happen. She's what they call vivparous. You should at the very least feel a point in the center of her pad, that'll be where a new plantlet will form.

Ormond Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Here is a wonderful primer on growing viviparous lilies ( Tina is a good one !)
http://www.victoria-adventure.org/waterlilies_images/vivips/page1.html

there is a thread here in the forums somewhere in the last month or 2 that I posted info on growing out new lilies from the seed in the center of Viviparous tropical water lily pads .I happen to have a pic of a tray of Tinas or Islamorads growing out that i took for that thread . I'll repost it here for you to see . Its easy and fun to grow your own :)
I hope this helps !
