Thanks ya'll . . . if you like this one, you may want to see a few more that were taken that day. Although this was my personal favorite, the others came out pretty nice as well. Just one of those days :)

Here's the thread that I put them on in the Gardening for Butterflies and Hummers section - http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/631775/

GD, they're all great photos! My Red Bird of Paradise has 2 seed pods. I'm watching them very close, because I definately want more of these. Do I just wait for the pods to dry, collect the seeds and start them inside come spring? Or, is there something special I need to do for them?

dang . . . somehow I didn't have this thread marked as a *watched thread* . . . sorry for the delay in responding here gang.

Janice . . . yeah they need to dry on the plant or the seeds may not reach maturity. However, be aware that the are of the *spring loaded* type and will POP open when they get fully dried out and ready to open. I'd suggest putting something around them so you don't lose the seeds. Maybe a sack or bag or something. I've heard some people use the foot cut off the bottom of panty hose for this type of seed pods that explode.

Then yeah . . . they start real easy. I let them soak in a damp paper towel a few days to soften them up then put them in small pots with a 1/2" or so of some lose soil. They should pop up within a few days. Just keep them in a shady location until they get a few weeks old. I've lost a few this summer that were in the mid-day hot direct sun. We live and learn I guess huh?

Yeah TxT . . . That's a great pic . . . that little spider should have plenty of company. I think every fly'n critter in these parts has visited my Red BoP blooms at some point this year. :)

Thanks everyone . . . I thought ya'll may enjoy those photos. I was just one of those days that everything was "nectar'n" all over these blooms. :)
