Butterfly Hordes in Texas

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hopefully this link will take you to an article of a "Butterfly Invasion" in Texas.

While conditions this summer seem favourable for Butterflies, I also like to think the raised awareness of the gardners also is helping.

RJ,

Yes...we've had millions of snouts passing through these past several weeks. For a while there some lysides were in the mix too. They look like waves of butterflies going by.

So much for my "I Brake For Butterflies" bumper sticker!!! The past couple of weekends that I've driven out the ranch have been horrendous. Snouts everywhere!!!

LOL--
you knew I was thinking of you when I posted that! I hope you got to take some pictures of it...as horrible as it is..it's definately something to be documented.

p.s. Chalice vines are growing like weeds..hope for blooms soon...

Ah yes, they've been here for a week already! It's given the car wash businesses a boost. Poor little butterflies, they seem to insist being on roadways and above the roads at the level cars have to hit them. So it's basicly about sex...wouldn't you know? I haven't seen any cats on the hackberry tree leaves. There were some odd-looking things on the underside of a few leaves...wondered what the chrysalides looked like for these butterflies.
