CLOSED: Wanted: Tree seedlings

Maysville, MO(Zone 5a)

I would like to trade named iris and named daylilies for tree seedlings, or small trees. I'm interested in any pine seedlings, expecially Ponderosa , White, and Eastern. Would also like any hardwood starts like Red Oak, Pin Oak, Sugar and any hardwood maples. Would like to trade asap so I can get them started in pots for overwintering. Thanks!

There are all kinds of Oak trees growing on my property. I don't know a thing about telling them apart. I could take pics if you would like.

Just wanted to let you all know it's really hard to transplant oak seedlings that have any size at all because of the taproot. It's also not a good time of year to be trying to transplant a lot of hardwood seedlings unless they're very tough trees. Better to wait until fall.

Thanks Hart......I'm looking for seedlings to pot up and winter over. I have over a hundred Blue Spruce potted that are really doing good.....was hoping to get some other seedlings the same size here. Thanks again for the info.....Jay

Hi Sandra......hot there? It is here. I would love to have some of the seedlings. I'm going to start dividing in about three or four weeks. I have a list of the first ones I'm going to dig and will send it by regular email as I can't send a regular attachment on here. Thanks for the note and keep in touch! Jay

Jay, have you checked your state's forest service to see if they do tree seedling sales? That's a great source of inexpensive trees that do well in your state in large quantities.

Yes.......they only distribute in the spring. I have acquired from then before, but got in too late this year to get some starts. Thanks for your effort though! Jay

How about a Tulip Tree? I also have Maples (sugar?) that turn yellow/orange in the fall.

If captmicha is talking about paulownia, those are very nice trees. Very hardy and tough, nice flowers and the wood is very valuable too. They do die back the first few years here but they come right back every year and you'll have a nice tall tree faster than many other hardwoods.

I have wild black cherry tree seedlings, another fast growing tree. I'm dealing with a family illness issue right now but if you want any, remind me in 2-3 weeks. I might also be able to find some sassafras seedlings and I have lots of eastern red cedar. Plenty of black walnuts too. The BW and cherry would have to be small - again the taproot issue.

Maysville, MO(Zone 5a)

Hart.......I wold definitely be interested in the wild black cherry and the sassafras seedlings. I have lots of black walnut, Alway a good source of nuts in the fall. Hope your misfortunes have positive results. I will be in contact later. Thanks again for the info and offer. Jay
