corn gluten as weed blocker?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I forgot I had 1/2 bag of corn gluten in my garage from last year using as a pre-emergent weed blocker. Any of you use this? I think it was Oregon State U. that did the research. It is YELLOW and if the sun really shines down on it you can pick up the fragrance of corn. I got it at the feed store when I got my alfalfa pellets.

It works so so but you would have to apply at a very very rate to be really effective.

I have used corn glutton and I like it. Anything is better than harmful chemicals. As I remember it says it becomes more effected the second year. I hope you give it another try.

I am going to use this stuff up. I can not remember if it was very effective last year. I want to use it among my Iris' to keep the grass out.

I don't know how well it will work for some grasses; it suppresses reproduction from seed, and so many grasses spread by rhizomes.
I find it fairly effective as a pre-emergent but only for very short periods of time (weeks not months). It is a garish yellow, and if you mulched over it every time, that would be an awful lot of mulch. YMMV of course.
Best of luck to you!
