We've been running like crazy people the last few days, with painting, doctor, and dentist appointments, so I haven't had much time to be here. Just wanted to say hi to everyone and I hope you're having a good week (and getting some rain if you need it like we do!).
Here's Kitten Face, my first ever Strep bloom! I love it!
Edited cause I was typing too quickly to spell correctly! LOL

Checking in & saying Hi!
Morning Star? Is that the front end of a spider or the back end of a bee?
P
The kitten face and morning glories are beautiful. I love the glory with the blue star.

I'd love some, Kelly. I can send you a SASE. Just need your address. Would you dmail me? Thanks a million.

Thankyou very much everyone!
Don, I wish I would have gotten back here sooner. I would have offered to send some seeds to you! I don't recall having 'Morning Star' seeds, but I did label the ones I had a name for. I'll follow the vine back to the ground and see if that one is labeled. Otherwise, I'll get out there very early one morning and hand-pollinate and tape shut several of the blooms, so we'll know we've got seeds for that particular one. Anyone who wants seeds from it, send me a dmail (so I'll remember who wanted them) and I'll get them out to you as soon as I can. I'm collecting seeds from all my Morning Glories, so I've got a mix of all of them, if anyone is interested in those, too.
For anyone who does outside gardening as well, I've got a post on the Seed Trading forum of seeds I've got to trade. Take a look at it and send me a dmail if you see anything you like. Plus, I've got tons of other seeds I just didn't have time to go through, so if you're a seed collector like I am, let me know and we'll see if we can come up with a trade! Here's a link to my seed post: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/631530/
bigred, I think it's the back end of a bee, but I wasn't sure, so I just called it a critter! LOL I had to hold the camera above my head to get a picture of that bloom, so I didn't know it was in there til I looked at the picture!
orkidlady, I believe I have some Little Hopi Girl babies, if you'd like one. :o)
Hugs to everyone!
Thanks for your kind offer Amy. But I needed to reorder some other seeds anyway and Swallowtail Garden had the rest that I was looking for anyway.
I think it's the same one as you posted and bigred suggested. Here is the photo from Swallowtails's catalog.
BLUE STAR MORNING GLORY SEEDS
5-inch very pale blue-white trumpets are marked with a darker blue star. Grows to 15-feet. Packet is 50 seeds
I love morning glories but let me tell you I have a "wild flower" morning glory - some would say, weed- growing in my yard and I have plucked every seedling, dug the mama and yanked till there was nothing left and oh yes, it's flourishing! LOL. Years ago, those I planted were never so "hardy"!
Oh, that wild morning glory, bindweed, call it what you will.... it is the worst nuissance!!!
RainGazer, your MGs are lovely!! I would love it if you could include some seeds in our fall trade... a mix is just fine, as I don't do a good job keeping track of most annual varieties anyway, LOL. I've got a couple of plants of 'Brazilian Morning Glory' that I'm going to try to collect seeds from. It's a very vigorous, sturdy vine, and it looks different enough from the other morning glory struggling next to it that I'm not sure we have to worry about crossing.... yep, just checked PF, and it's a different species. I love the hairy little "soft spines" along its stem!
I looked it up too, Jill, and it does look nice indeed. Onalee Seeds sells it, and this is what they had to say:
These are annuals, but readily self-sow for even more vines the following year!
These are quite vigorous vines, growing to 15-20 feet. They are the most unusual morning glories I've grown with redish/purple fuzzy stems and dark green, deeply lobed leaves. The vines are covered with lovely purple flowers every morning, but I must say you need to be an early riser to get the full effect of these blooms, as they fade quickly once the sun hits them. But, don't despair - the clusters of seed pods are almost as lovely as the flowers in shades of pinkish/purple and quite large to hold the very large seeds. These also seem to be resistant to rabbits, who happily cut my other morning glory vines, but never touched these.
I have found they need very little care and yield LOTS AND LOTS of blooms. They grow best in sandy average soil and in full sun. Easy and fun, even for new gardeners and children. These took about 80 days to bloom, but have bloomed abundantly every day this summer.

Oh I love my morning glories! They're just beautiful! I wish I would have planted more of them toward the center of the trellis and fewer toward the outside. Next year I'm going to plant Moonflowers, and something that will bloom during the day, too, that way I'll have flowers all day and night! :o) I've gotten several more varieties of MG seeds this year, too, so I'll be anxious to see those bloom next year. I may have my husband build another trellis for me, too. I love flowering vines! :o)
Yes I love Moonflowers. I have lots of the bean seeds but did not plant them this year. Maybe I should put a few in the ground I'm sure they will still grow here. I love growing them with the purple vine bean I can not remeber the name but pretty purple flowers come out like small orchid blooms and it grows so well with the Moon Flower vine !
I've got some Hyacinth bean vine and some Sweet Peas that are supposed to be fragrant that I'm going to grow next year. Can't remember if the Hyacinth bean is supposed to be fragrant, but I want to grow it anyway. And I'm going to grow regular 'Maypop' passiflora next year, too. I've got 'Clear Sky' this year and I love it!
Cool! Is it fragrant?
