These guys are so cute. And the way they fly around and can just stop in midair is amazing. Finally this morning I was able to get a few good shots of one of the hummers that visits my feeder and just wanted to share.
For those who don't want feeders because of the bees, there's a little trick to keep them from going near the feeder. Put a little vegetable oil on the feeder and the feeding tubes. Works like a charm!! No bees, just hummers. :)
Hungry hummer!
they are wonderous little creatures. Please never put anything on your feeders. It can get on the feathers and prevent it from flying and around the feeding port could harm the hummer.
oooh no. I feel like a total heel now! I didn't realize. I read in a book that it was a good way to ward off the bees, and never even dreamed it could harm the hummers.
Will wash it off now! Thanks for the head's up!!
put a butter bowl lid out near the feeder and put some nectar in it for the bees. They will not bother the feeder anymore. If you have a ant problem they have a little water cup you can buy to put on top of your feeder to stop the ants from getting to it.
Thank you for the help, Donna! I truly appreciate it!
