I have successfully germinated 7 seeds which are spaced an inch apart and are now 2 inches high. My idea was to grow them in one pot and eventually have a mass of them in a hugh pot. Would this be ok to do? I have only ever seen them growing singly. Is there a good reason for this and is my plan doomed from the start?

Should I repot them now into their final size pot without re-spacing them or should I transplant them with growing space into their final pot or should I leave them until next spring now?

I live in a zone 10 (like) mediterranean climate with a protected courtyard. Can they be left outside in winter in this climate?

Sorry for showering you with questions, but I'm new to Amarylis.
Thanks in advance

Here in Oregon they grow very easily, like weeds. You will be fine with them in the pot, when they out grow it just repot. My aunt has a patch that is about 40 years old and some of the bulbs you need two hands to pick them up. They will winter outside okay, here we plant them with the top of the bulb exposed and no watering. They tend to rot easily. I would not try and seperate them, I would only transplant them when they got root bound, then transplant in a clump until you actually have bulbs. Here we only transplant them after blooming when they have no foliage. But they are tough. Just watch the watering, not too much. I have only seen them single when they have just been divided, they mutliply really fast, here they are in clumps every where.

Thank you Rebecca - please post some pictures - I'd love to see your aunts plants. I am so excited about having germinated some seeds...now all i have to do is wait a few years LOL

It's the simple things in life that give so much joy isn't it!!!!

I will take some pictures when its blooming in a few weeks. It really is pretty. And there is something about growing a plant from seed, takes longer to get the flower but its really "yours" in a way buying a plant is not.
If you like those you would like the nerine bulbs. They are wonderful, they look the same, the flower and the foliage but much smaller. I love them.
We call the belladonnas "naked ladies" here.

Another bulb that I just love is the dierama. Do you grow those, they should do well for you and are easy from seed. I have had them bloom in 2 years from seed, so thats not too long. I like them because they look exotic and are so easy.

Hi Rebecca

I looked up Dierama in plant files - now I remeber them. Very graceful plant. I think it would do better in soil rather than pots - what do you think? I don't have any flower beds as such so was looking for pot culture plants. Nerines are gorgeous too - I will have to get some seeds!!!! I know they work in pots.

Thanks for your interest in my silly post!
