Now that the Fireweed is blooming, it's time to not only make Homesteader Honey, but Fireweed Jelly as well.
Fill a large paper bag with freshly picked, clean, Fireweed blossoms.
Bring 1 1/2 quarts water to a boil. Add the blossoms. Remove from heat and let steep for 15 minutes.
Strain through cheesecloth lined strainer into a large kettle. To that add:
Juice of one lemon
1 package of dry pectin Bring all to a boil then add, all at once, 8 cups sugar. Boil hard 2 minutes.
Pour into jars.
