Rain rain rain

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Since it's rainy today, decide to share some mid summer photos, and do a little online gardening!

Pond and surrounding area- Tepanom statude from Thailand-
The edge of the deck was sculptured in a curve so that this seen can be viewed from the pond edge of the deck

Australian fern
Australian fern surrounded by rubber trees, calladiums and hilo beauty.
This fern- I found at home depot 2 years ago, scroungy- nearly dead in a corner- I think it cried out for help, I had to buy it. The plant fronds are spanning 6 feet now, and coming up 2 fronds at a time, then 1, then 2 again.. I noticed the plant is particularly enjoying the rain today.

Bromeliad -Second generation- has a big red bract- Just beginning to bloom --and I don't know the name. I bought the plant at work, downtown- the lobby plants go on sale for just 3 dollars each- including Bromeliads...imagine trying to carry 3 huge boxes of plants down an elevator from a high rise. But what a deal. some times the security people just load me up for free.

I hope it rains more often up your way......LOL
Thanks for the tour. Is that a variegated philodendron in the bottom left of the pond picture? Or is it called something spilt milk?

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

I LOVE your garden! Especially that Thai statue. My MIL, who IS from Thailand, would love something like that. I need to see if I can find something similar for her (locally of course).

I have many of the same plants as you. It's wonderful to see them put together in such a beautiful composition, so it gives me hope and reassurance that I'm working in the right direction. I saw those Australian Ferns at the local Houston Garden Center, bet I can get one now during their half price sale. Thanks for the beautiful photo show.

celt33040, it needs to STOP raining here! lol... I got over 6" just today at my house in NW Houston. I bet the flooding in Houston has made the national news (CNN or somehting).

Lake City, FL(Zone 8b)

Thank you for sharing your beautiful piece of paradise garden with us - what a luvly place and I'll bet it is so relaxing to sit and listen to the water flowing in your pond.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

nice papayas!! as always, your little piece of paradise is amazing! that bird of paradise is huge...lucky you. (i'll send you some blooming vibes ;)) do you keep your prince of orange in the ground? thanks for the tour.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Thanks for sharing. You have an awesome piece of paradise.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks guys- yes it is fun...
see what you missed last week Debbie!? Your always welcome though.- and anyone in Houston.
I bought a Jade vine last weekend- I think I am tempting fate a bit, as there is also a coconut tree growing in the front- doing well (first year) am wondering how I'm going to get it through the winter. If you see a skyscraper green house with a single tree in it- you may have just past my house ..LOL.

Greenbud-- 11th street in the Heights has some Statues, although mainly Buddas. I used to import alot of things like that from Chiang Mai, Thailand.
In the Heights we are lucky to have so many huge trees that provides a canopy even with out leaves during the winter. Still everything gets mulched with alot of stuff to make it through the winter- except last winter which was...what winter?

Celt33040
in the left is Arrowhead' (Syngonium podophyllum)
I bought it at jerrys jungle - if you haven't heard of him- he really has a bit of a jungle and 3 times a year he sells excess plants, some rare jerrysjungle.com

Absolutely beautiful.

Unfortunately Randy--kid needed my car for transportation to work; at least she has started listening to me about not driving her car when the "check engine" or "low coolant" light is on. That has been a costly lesson in the past, for me. I will probably be down there Mon or Tues and will leave your plants on your front porch for you if you've left for work.

Those are some good looking orchids RJ! and I have never seen that Discolor vine! Very cool, does it do anything besides discolor? LOL. Oh come on that was worth a chuckle, no?
