July 26, Wednesday, Texas Coffee and Gardening in the AM

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Well...I didn't get up in time yesterday to enter the thread....but here it is today. I have allergies and couldn't breathe this morning so I got up on my own!
Today I need to do lots of gardening...and we're supposed to get rain sometime today and the temp isn't supposed to get over 90! Yea! I'm going to go ahead and post this and see if anyone is up!!! :)

Okay..I've been on for about an hour....is anyone here?? :)
I've got to go get ready for a "farewell" party at school for a librarian who is moving to the public sector...can't blame her..the money is better!

Boerne new zone 30, TX(Zone 8b)

yea, I got called into work early. I HATE mornings!

Midway, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm up too. Been up since about 3:30 am. I've got allergies acting up too this morning. It's very humid here and rain expected. I'm waiting for the rain! ;) I will do some watering anyway. We haven't been so lucky with rain so I don't want to take any chances. My plants are enjoying the cooler temps.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Sorry, been up since 4:30 but get distracted with the updated threads and didn't get here. A load of laundry done up and lunches packed. Am getting ready to go walk with the dogs and tour the plants. Have a great day, we are still praying for rain... I think that's what they call that wet stuff that falls from the sky.... pod

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I am here Connie, just found the thread. I did post a link on the previous thread, that way if anyone is 'watching' it it will pop up and give them the new link.
I love parties, but don't like loosing fellow workers, but if the money isn't there who can blame her.
We said goodbye to one Friday, she is still with our department but is in a different location and job duty. Her need was daytime hours due to a little one.
Hope you do get your rain today. We have a 30 or 40 percent chance tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I love mornings, just don't like work! I can retire in 439 working days though!! Yipee!! Speaking of work, need to get off and get ready! Have a great day all.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Boy, I'm really running late today. I'm recovering from tending "Little Red", my 4 month old red headed grandbaby all day yesterday. I had plans to get up early and hit the garden for a bit of work. My ornamental sweet potato vine is trying to take over the world. I woke up to rain and looked out to see the whole garden floating in water. It's rained a lot through the night and still going heavy. The pool is within an inch of overflowing and that's never happened before! So much for my yard work today.

Spring, TX(Zone 9b)

Yup, Rain in Spring all night and this am. Good sleeping weather.
Will be doing laundry and cleaning today.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, the pool is now overfowing and all the pot plants are blown over. Two large plumerias and one brug on the ground. Anybody know how bad chlorinated pool water is for plants? I'm hoping it's no worse than chlorinated tap water, but suspect that the concentration is higher in the pool. Sure hope it doesn't kill anything, but hey, if it does, then I"ll know what to put on the china berry tree that just volunteered on the property line coming up through my neighbors junk pile! I've decided china berries are indestructable until a wind blows it over, probably through my roof!

Midway, TX(Zone 8b)

Still no rain here. :(

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

none here either....

Porter, TX(Zone 9a)

All the rain must be at my unfinished house and I don't even live there yet :(

The completion date has been pushed back for the 3rd time(or is it the 4th, I've lost count) due to rain.

Sorry I had to run...and missed y'all! It's fun, however, reading about what you were going to do today! See ya in the morning...

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Connie, post the link to tomorrow's thread here when you set it up. Later.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey! We got an inch of rain today! I am afraid we will have to teach the fish how to swim again. A night off from watering all the pot plants. How nice! Crowelli I am sorry you are being swamped. I heard from someone in Orange had 7 inches overnite. Would be nice if it would be less generous at once and more generous all the time.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Rain? What's rain? We have calves big enough to wean that have not been rained on more than two times, and that was very little rain each time. Houston, give it up and send it north!!!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Weather guy said that the only chance of rain here would be East and South of Dallas. Fort Worth is West of D and we are on the SW side, guess that leaves us high and dry as far as rain is concerned. But we are going to pay for another 30 minute shower via the sprinkler tonight. Unlike last year, of dragging hoses, I can say thank God we put it in when we did!

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

sheila...doesn't it make a HUGE difference with a sprinkler system?? 15 minutes a day and green stuff...we just put ours in this year and can't believe the difference

Here is the link for the new day...I hope I did this right!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah!! Worked great, see you in the am for coffee!!

Sticks and Sheila,

I thought my plants were getting too much water with my new irrig. system, so I turned it off (not knowing how to just re-do all the zones) and I guess I didn't do a very good job of hand-watering for 2 days, as I think I lost a little mugo pine! It's all crispy on the ends!! Only the deep inside is still green. I feel so bad! I'm so glad we have the watering system too...plants are always so green and beautiful! Truly a God-send (well, other than the BIG "God-send from the sky" which we haven't seen in a long time! :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Y'all go ahead and brag about all that rain.
Just hope you don't get too much at one time like we did two years ago. The back of our property is in a valley and it came a down pour. Within 45 minutes it had rained 4 inches or more. Here is a picture of the water debris line on the back of the chairs beside our Koi pond. The water rose fast then drained off fairly fast, taking fish and anything that would float. It tore up fences and storage buildings in the area, then flooded a house that is on the NE edge of our property.
I have lived in Houston when there were floods and hurricanes hit the coast, it can be bad down that way. So you guys let that rain come on through and share!

Sheila...so sad about your koi that "floated" off somewhere...who knows where?? Just hope the little things found a pool of water! Imagine someone finding them in their pool the next day!! :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Well the neighbor that was home said he chased one of his until it dissappeared through the fence into the storm drain just across my yard. From there it goes into a creek that is close by with a duck pond. Who knows they may still be lurking on the bottom. I went down there the next morning when the flood waters subsided and looked, but didn't see them.
Well I am calling this a day...see ya in the morn.
