Redback Spider (Latrodectus hasselti)
Looks like a version of the Black Widow.
Yes it is a close relative and in the same Genus and also has a poisonous bite!
I found one that I demolished last week and another one today that excaped my spider spray.. I am in Napa, Ca. I know when you see red on a spider you should beware.. I wore gloves sometimes, now I wear them all the time when in the garden..
