I tasted Jakfruit last weekend, and I think that's the most delicious fruit I have ever eaten! It taste like a combination of banana, mango, pineapple, and cantaloupe. You can taste all these fruits in every bite. I am getting a tree next week and I read that if you hand pollinate, the fruit turns out better. Alan's tropical fruit trees in Largo, Florida and Pine Island nursery in Miami sells the trees for $35.00 for a 3 footer. I am in zone9a and if I cover the tree in the winter(using PVC pipe and a blanket and a light bulb) the tree should be OK. Thanks for any help, Joe
Has anyone ever hand pollinated Jakfruit?
cj, do you know that there is a new tropical fruit forum?
Thanks stressbaby. I book marked the new forum. CJ
Only a little off-topic bit of trivia: Interesting thing I learned about Jackfruit one late night during foodnetwork...it's where Juicyfruit chewing gum gets its flavoring from. I can't ever get the fresh variety in my location, but I'll indulge in the canned fruit every now and then (not the same but better than nothing) and you can definitely taste the similarity.
Good luck with your fruit. You're lucky to be able to grow it.
