OK - Here goes: I notice this morning that Lola is pacing the floor a lot. I had just taken her out for a walk, so I thought, she must just have a little excess energy to work off. So, I went upstairs to get ready to go out and run errands, figuring I'd crate her when I came back down in a few minutes. As I was coming down the stairs, I smelled something "a-foul" and wondered if Lola just had bad gas or something. When I came over the dog gate into the kitchen/family room, I saw her happily sleeping on her bed. I took a quick look around, didn't see anything, so I put her in her crate and left the house. DH gave her cheese last night, and it gives her gas, but he's at work all day and doesn't have to deal with it, right? Thanks honey.
Two hours later, I came home and the house really stunk! I looked at her lounging in her crate and didn't see that she had 'done anything' so I figured it was just another one of her room-clearing outbursts...if ya know what I mean. THEN, I came around the corner of the kitchen table and noticed what appeared to be a few tablespoons of gravy on top of the heater vent! Well, as you can probably imagine, it wasn't gravy!!!! After finding my rubber gloves, I pried off the wooden grate and put it in the kitchen sink. Looking down into the register duct, I noticed that it bent at about 45 degrees about 2 feet down, and at the bottom there was a large dark puddle. Once my arm was fully extended inside up to my shoulder, I could reach all the way in and mop up, but some of it had dried by this time. Yeeech! Once I finished scrubbing the inside of the duct, it only took me another 45 minutes with the help of a toothpick, q-tip and sponge to get everything out of the wooden grate.
It was sooooooooo gross, but I had to laugh about it (my 13 year old son had a good laugh about it watching me)! Lola frequently drops things into the heater vent and watches them disappear. I wonder if she thought she wouldn't get in trouble if she could make her poop disappear too!
