Weiz Posaune

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Boy did Weiz take off this year. I can't believe how huge it has gotten since putting it out in the spring. I tucked him away behind this metal shed with some canna seedlings and a small daylily seedling garden. I have to fight WP just to get in the bed to water. Wp says you can't hide me!

Keep in mind that this shed is 10 feet wide and a little over 5 feet high.

I don't know how to edit the title or I would change it since this one is not WP.

Beautiful, it sure likes where you have it planted.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

wonderful photo, thanks for sharing, that sure is a big happy plant!
How is the scent?

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Looks like WP likes the spot you gave him.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Oh, I love those nodding blooms!!
It is just huge! I cannot get over how wide it is!!
Do you ever wonder when the brugs are going to get so big they just take over everything? LOL
Beautiful flowers.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Dott, I think you have the true gardener's touch! All you have is just so happy!

I want to know about your PINK canna there. It looks short and the flower head looks HUGE! Do you know its name? And is the flower head really huge?

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Not feeling so well this morning. Thank goodness my fingers can let the keys talk since my throat is so sore.

Laurrie, the fragrance is average I would say but Wp seems to be a prolific bloomer for me compared to others.

Kell, all those canna's were grown from seed I had collected from Maudie Malcolm a couple of yrs ago. I had lost most of my canna's in winter storage. I figured I would give seeds a try instead of purchasing more and it worked out for the best. Most of the seedlings turned out to be pink but a couple are a creamy white.

Oh Dott, Sorry you arent feeling well this am...
your WP is awesome ! and I love you pink canna.. would love to see a picture of the creamy white....
Know what you mean about losing cannas I lost lots of mine when we had snow for christmas in 2004, it hadnt ben that cold nor had we had snow in 25 years or more.all were blooming at the time.so from the 150 different ones I can I ended up with 6 left.... now I brought about 6 more so I have 12 named cannas at most....
I do have some seeds that I am going to grow and see what happens.
hope you get to feeling better

wow dott that is a beauty and you have really done well with it. I see it is in a pot and seems to love it.
Congrats on the beautiful brug.

Dott, I am sorry but this one is not Weisse Posaune. WP is a versicolor and yours is a suaveolens - hybrid.

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Thank you for pointing it out Monika. I just hate it when this happens. I have gotten more mislabeled plants through the GW exchange forums than one person should ever have. I am so glad I don't exchange there anymore. Almost every single daylily I had ever exchanged for on the GW was mislabeled junk. It really bites when I spend money on good plants and exchange for the same value to find out I have been used. I have had this one for a couple of yrs and should have checked it out better. I sent so many freebies out to members last year with this one as WP.

I am sorry to anyone who I have exchange or sent for postage this brug. Make sure to change your labels please.

Sorry I am a little cranky today, Between the weather and being sick it is getting the best of me.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Cheer up Dot. You have all of us drooling over your expertise in gardening and brugs. that are blooming themselves to death. I have never been one to exchange plants with anyone I do not know as I am uncontrollable with anger when I have been misled.

Tussee

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

Dott, I'm sorry that your brug isn't what you thought that it was, but it is a very beautiful brug!!
You could call it, Dott's Beauty!!
Bonnie

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks Elva. I am feeling a little better now that my sor throat and ears went away. I will try to get a pic of the creamy white one. I can't remember if it is blooming right now or not. I have only been doing what I have to outside the last few days.

Thanks Tussee. I'm just under the weather and I get real cranky when I don't feel well. I HATE being sick. I love exchanging plant. I have had the most wonderful traders here on DG. Everyone seems to know there plants well on DG. I am only disappointed that I sent out the plant mislabeled. I would hate for others to be circulating it by the wrong name.

Bonnie, it is a great brug. Who wouldn't love something that puts on this kind of show for them. I like the name "Dott's Beauty".

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am glad you are feeling better, Dott! I love the name Dott's Beauty.

I love the shape of this kind of suav, see the lower calyx? It covers the neck but still has some of that open face nod. And it has such a full skirt. How many points to it? I prefer hybrids usually to species. Some of them grab the best of all their parts. White is always my favorite at night. They just shimmer.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Dott I'm so sorry this happened to you. It is definitely upsetting when these things happen.

Please please please do not rename your brug. I'm sure it already had/has an original name. It has it's own real history. To rename it will only create confusion in the future for others. Traders might get Dott's Beauty and they will be disappointed if they find out they already have the brug but under a different name. History records for collectors and hybridizers will be messed up. Total confusion any way you look at it.
It is best if you call it unknown.
I hope you'll understand the problems renaming this brug could bring.

ps ... someone else before you already renamed it at one time. Do you see how the renaming issues just snowball? You really don't want someone else to be as disappointed as you are and to point fingers at you someday for renaming an already renamed brug.

Thanks Kell. It has 5 points. I love white also. White just glows in the dark. I'm to wimpy to travel out to far from the house without DH as an escort at night so I don't get to see this one except in the daylight.

Vee8ch. There is no way I would do such a thing as rename a plant. I've seen a lot of wrong named plants from people trying to find the right name for a plant they have just by looking at pics which is probably how this one happened on a wrong name. It would be completely wrong if I were to rename or questimate what this plant's real name is. It will be one I leave tagged just white.

I'm so glad you already were aware of the problems. Maybe this thread you started will help others to make the same decision if it ever happens to them. It's all good :)

Dott, I also got a cutting on that site from someone several years back and it was labeled the same. (Weiz Posaune)
It also turned out to be a Suav. Hybrid but I just love it's blooms and fragrance.
You take care of yourself!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

My sweetheart was reading this thread last evening and told me my comments to you were not completely honest. He said I do not trade with people, I just give everything away. Said he feared coming home some day to find out I had given him away. Lol.

Tussee

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

It's a keeper Kin. Thanks, I will.

LOL Tussee. Giving smiles is what I like to call it.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee Tussee, list his attributes. I may want him. Does he dig? Weed? Is he rich and have a huge desire to spend his money on buying plants? If YES to all of the above, give him to me.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Kell, his attributes are many and varied but none of the listed apply. Thank goodness I am stuck with him.

Tussee

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Tussee, yes you are. Since my husband is trying so hard to retire from digging holes I really do need to stick to my skill list. Maybe you can train him and then rent him out for some plant money.

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

Just to be clear, I did mean that Dot could call it Dot's Beauty. I didn't mean to officially try to register the name.
Bonnie

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I love the name, Bonnie! A beauty for sure!!
