This looks very much like L. leichtlinii, rather than L. lancifolium flaviflorum. I had both this year and the former has these dark stems and a brighter yellow hue, as in this picture.

pajaritomt,

What do you think? Do your records indicate that your plant is correctly identified, or if it is L. leichtlinii? Here's a link to that entry for comparison http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/62490/

Thanks for taking a look.

Lilium leichtlinii does not produce stem bulbils, while Lilium lancifolium varieties do. It would probably be possible to distinguish the plant in question on that basis.

I think it could be Lilium leichtlinii not Lilium lancifolium var. flaviflorum. I don't have any records on this, but I believe that I would not have known the difference between the two and might easily have put it in the wrong classification. I didn't know much about classification at that time. Feel free to move this to lilium leichtlinii if you believe that is more appropriate. I certainly don't know otherwise. I still have this plant and it has never produced stem bubils which is another sign that it might be lilium leichtlinii.

I think the lack of bulbils is the deciding factor. I've moved the photo. Thanks for all the help in narrowing this one down everyone.

You are welcome. Ironically, the one blind stalk of L. leichtlinii of the six I planted last Spring, has some bulbils at the top and at the first axil or two below that. Meanwhile my L. lancifolium flaviflorum had as many as four bulbils at an axil, in addition, of course, to several flowers above.

So where did you get L. lancifolium flaviforum? I would like to try it in my lily bed. I hope it wasn't from a friend or a trade, but rather a commercial source.

I did get it in a swap but Buggycrazy has it, (as "Tigrinum flaviflorum").

Good to know. I would like to try growing it.
