What is a HummZinger and where do you get one please? I am told that this is the Hummingbird feeder to own. I have no idea what it is but I'd like to know more about it.
What is a HummZinger?
Hi equilibrium,
Here's a website with a review of the HumZinger feeders. I haven't tried one yet myself...

I'd never have another type of Hummingbird feeder. Built in ant moat - no ants. Built in bee proof design - no bees. Built in easy to clean features - great for everyone. Built in leak proof design - no spilled nectar. Multiple sizes to fit your situation. Perches for the birds. The only thing that I don't like is that the feeding ports accumulate mold. This is easily cared for by using pipe cleaners on the ports.

this is my first year with hummer feeders. I have 3. one is a small hummzinger and it is definitely their favorite. I'll probably get another larger one next year. VERY easy to clean. I got some of the little brushes to clean the ports, but I'm sure pipe cleaners are just as good. I got mine at The Best Nest (they have 4 different ones), but you can get them almost anywhere online

I also got a window feeder from them. really neat to have the hummers right at the window

have fun!

Thank you! I heard the word and figured it had to be really neat what ever it was.
Forgot to mention I ordered from your site. I really liked the suction cup feeders. I have two windows by my kitchen sink because it's in the corner and I plan on sticking one on each window. By the way, the prices at the site you gave me were the best. Thanks for the link grampapa!
01 1 ASP-143 Aspects HummZinger Excel Hummingbird Feeder, 16 oz $17.99 $17.99
02 2 HF-7930 Heritage Farms Hummer Window Feeder, 8 oz. $11.99 $23.98
03 3 WLA-S-10023 Wildlife Accessories Hummingbird Feeder Port Brush $1.49 $4.47
I think my total with shipping and handling was around $55 so I'm very pleased.
Sheri, buy one. Everyone says they are the best around. I can't resist. Here's hoping I get some hummers next year.
good luck with yours! can't tell you what a delight it is. when people come to the house and see one right at the window they get so excited. but the little guys still like that hummzinger best. and it is the easiest to clean. I also have a bottle-type feeder, but I'll probably replace it with a bigger hummzinger.
on last pic, my favorite bird, came to the window every night around 7:30
gram ~a girl~
Ah, you've got the suction cup model too. I'm really excited about those. Did the suction cups really stick well to the window for you?
Loved your photos. How do you do that collage thing?
suction cups work great as long as the window is clean when you put it on ( so I have one really clean spot on my window LOL).
I use LumaPix FotoFusion (recommended by a fellow DGer). you can download a free trial, but they stamp their name all over your pix until you pay for it. I think it was $30

Speaking of humming bird feeders, yesterday, I was talking with a shoe salesperson. We were saying how we missed our hummers. I mentioned that my feeders were still going fast- I assumed that it was migrants. She said her neighbor was puzzled by the same thing and set up a night camera. She has pictures of bats visiting her humming bird feeders!!! I had no idea. Has anyone else had any glimpses of our evening friends at their hb feeders?
No, but I sure would love to see one or two of those images. Way cool!
I would also. I walked into a shoe store and realized I forgot to change my water stained, grubby old garden shoes on. That started a quick conversation, but I didn't get the opportunity to ask about pictures as she was busy. I was hoping that someone looking at this thread may have some pics.
Well, that sure is interesting. maybe start a new thread and ask
gram; how would I do that??
Daisy, click on the 'Gardening for Wildlife' forum at the top or bottom of this thread. Scroll to the bottom. It will say 'Start a new topic'. you just give it a title and start from there. then maybe someone who knows something more about bats will see it.

I'm not sure about the HummZinger, even though people seem to love them. My fear is that the liquid sits in the bottom with the ports on top, where as my bottle feeder keeps the liquid in the port since the bottle is basically hung upside down. What did you decide Equil?
Terry,
You can watch the Hummingbirds lap up the nectar in a HummZinger. You can actually watch their tongue going about as fast as their wings go. They can spot that BIG red thing from a mile away! Just hang a HummZinger and you won't have any Hummingbirds at your other feeders. They love 'em!
Thanks Mark! But doesn't it need to be filled more often than my bottle feeder? Just seems like with them drinking and evaporation, it would need to be filled a lot more. Wrong?
Don't worry about evaporation. Even the six port only has six small holes. It might need to be filled more often if you have a LOT of Hummingbirds. I usually only have a pair, or two, around each year. The nectar would go bad before they could go through all of it. The six port model holds 16 ounces. That's the only drawback for me, actually. I end up only filling mine about half full to keep from throwing away too much with every change.
That's what I mean Mark. My bottle feeder is....I think it holds 4 cups. So 32 ounces. I can fill it with just 1 cup or 2 cups, whatever I feel I need. If it's only half full, how can they can their tongues in there to reach the sugar water? I'm not getting it.........
Hi Terry, Hummingbirds have Very long tongues. They wouldn't have any trouble reaching the sugar water.I have both types of feeders but my juveniles couldn't figure out the saucer type at all. I can't wait to see them next Spring.
(heehee) terryr ..
If it's only half full, how can they can their tongues in there to reach the sugar water? I'm not getting it.........
Whether it's a bottle feeder or any of the saucer feeders .. and, whether it's full, half-full, or a 1/4 of a cup remaining in the bowl - - those hummer tongues have little trouble consuming the sugar water and EMPTYING the bowls!!
Equil .. gonna be sure the word gets spread that you'd like to see an ample number of the lil flyin' jewels visit you, next year.

Well alrighty then, thank you!
P.S. Now I have this image in my head of a very small bird with a Gene Simmons type tongue!
Oh ye of little words, like I said Gene Simmons!
Terry,
I have a job to do, too. Luckily, I work on computers and networks so when stuff is running I get some breaks. I just had a minute before rushing off to a project.
The tongue may be Geneish, but the makeup on the birds is much better!
Mark
Nah, the birds wear no makeup, they look much better going au natural. Something Gene never did figure out.........
these little birds have more to work with than Gene :-) my first year out...I had a small hummzinger, a window feeder and a bottle feeder. a didn't have a huge amount of traffic, but enough that I was thoroughly entertained. their favorite was the hummzinger, then the window feeder, and the bottle feeder was last.
Now gram~a~girl, that is down right scary to think they have more to work with than Gene!! I have 3 bottle feeders in perfect condition. I'll see if I can find a hummzinger to look at, live and in person.
all I meant was (a-hem) that they are much cuter ;-) terry, go ahead and get a hummzinger. you'll like it, it's easy to clean. the birdies will like it. everybody's happy and you can still use your bottle feeders, too. (geez, I should buy stock in these things LOL)
You can come see them in person by me. It's only a 4 hour drive, no sweat. I bought a few for myself. I also bought some shepherd's hooks to be able to hang them. Come to think of it, I also bought some of the ones that suction cup onto the windows so you can look at those "live and in person" too. Speaking of which, I still have those white fly traps for you. Should I send them out at this point or just hang on to them until I meet up with you at the horticulture expo?
Hang onto them until we meet up.
Isn't anything cuter than Gene??? gives me shivers..........
