I have several feeders out, but I seem to feed everything but what I intend to feed. John

Oh, John, I don't think I would call that woodpecker on the hummer feeder a robber. It is beautiful in its own right!
Gee, If I got one bird to show up at one of my feeders I`d rejoice. I have 2 cats and they hunt like wild things do so maaaybe the critters are scared. Even the squirrels stay out of my yard. :)
I have discovered that to keep squirrels away I use picture wire. I screw a eye hook into a branch way up high as you can go. Then put one of those things that swirl around - I think it is called a snap swivel - then hang picture wire down and put another one of those twirly things. Then hook the bird feeder on that. They are unable to figure out how to slide down it so they don't. I now have all the bird feeders and suet feeders hanging like that and they can not conquer it at all. Hope this helps!!

Dovebydesign - how long have you had your birdfeeders like that?
It has been a year now. I lost several feeders to my squirrels, which I do feed. But then the picture wire became a concept and it works! They really are not able to manage this one. They try! They stare at it, I keep thinking one day they will slide down it but so far......they leave them alone! The birds love the feeders. I get all kinds of them all day long and the seed that spills out feeds the ones that liek platform feeding!
Wow, to think everyone is spending tons of money on those squirrel-proof feeders that aren't really, and it is that simple!?!
I will definitely give this a try - THANK YOU for sharing on DG!
I want to feed the squirrels, too, but their food doesn't have to cost so much as good bird food.
Must be good entertainment, for you, too - watching them try to figure it out!
Perhaps you should post this again as its own thread so more people can pick up on it?
