A big Birthday hug from me ...have a wonderfull Birthday and many happy returns of it !
Lenne.
Happy Birthday Philomel !
Happy birthday , hope you're having a great day...another year more experienced?...
Arrgh Late again! Happy Belated Birthday Philomel :) I hope you had a great time.
Oh thanks ever so much for all the good wishes Lenne, Janet, Sue and Debby
Sorry I hadn't spotted the thread to say thank you earlier!!
I had a great day - and no, no wiser sue ;o))
Was only saying to my daughter the other day, you think by the time I've reached this distinguished age I'd have learnt. Still, I continue to maintain that my glass is half full (as opposed to half empty lol)
I'd better wish you all a very happy birthday now as I'm always forgetting to scroll down and see what's what ........Anyway, big hugs and a big thanks to all of you xx
Oh, Philomel... sorry I missed this one. Please accept my heartfelt birthday wishes, all the same. I'll be reaching the ripe old age of 60 next January, and I'm in no hurry, as each year seems to make it harder to get off my hands and knees to weed the next flower bed. Of course, being young and carefee, you don't know what I'm talking about!
LOLOL I'll be only 6 months behind you with the big 6 then ;o))
Thanks ever so much for the birthday wishes. Lovely to hear from you. Hope all is well in Alaska land
Hilary xx
Hello WZ we haven't seen you here for a while.
Philomel
Why is your glass only half full, it should be overflowing or your waiter isn't doing his job properly ;)

LOLOL Quite right Baa ;o))
My cup overfloweth.......
Ah, it's good to visit with old friends. It seems there are so many new faces in the Garden, and I've been too busy to get truly acquainted. I finally took some time the other day to post a thread in the Perennial forum with pictures of my aquilegia, and I had two responses, and most of the feedback was how to stop them from spreading. I felt like a stranger at a garden party.
Oooh, how strange. Yes, I've not really got around the forums now they are so expanded and full of new people. Lovely to see the growth, but great to see old friends! I love aquilegia and have some seed from sorgina in Spain to sow in the autumn. She came to visit recently and we had a major seed swapping session :)
How has your nursery been faring this year Carol? Hope you've made Seward a more colourful place as usual. It must be fantastic to look at all your plants around and know you've made such a difference :o)
Have you had the heat wave that so many other places (including here) have been experiencing?
No heat wave here! I call it my 50's summer, low 50'sF at night and mid to high 50'sF in the daytime. We had a few hot days in May, and I suppose Seward's summer of 2006 felt it had done its duty and shifted to cruise control for the rest of the season. The aquilegia like it, however. I had so many lovely ones, lots of different cultivars, and the colors were quite intense.
Weezingreens nursery did well early on, but it seems people forget they can plant around here from early spring til freeze... no intense heat to stress the plants! LOL! I'm afraid I have such a compulsion to plant seeds and transplant them, that I have more plants than I could sell in a lifetime. I donated about 30 pots to the local Chamber of Commerce today, I felt a sense of relief to see them go off to a better life than those tiny pots!
It is rewarding to see my plants around town. Many people have told me that my plants always perform well for them. I try to have all plants hardened off before I sell them, and most perennial varieties wintered over before I recommend them. Most all my plants are grown from seeds that I trade for or purchase or collect. I'm still sowing seeds I received from Psilo. I got some lovely aquilegia and geranium seeds from her.
Here's my Aquilegia thread. Maybe it will serve as a belated birthday eye candy, Phil. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/627123/#new
As long as you catch most of it Philomel LOL
Beautiful Aquilegias WZ, they really seem to love your climate, how many do you have now? I know what you mean about feeling a bit like a stranger at a garden party! Still you know you are always welcome in here don't you, you can make us feel jealous of your lovely cool days LOL, fortunately it's cooled down a bit for the moment here.
Oh, Baa... how many do I have! LOL! I'm afraid I have more of them than I could even plant in the ground or sell to others. I wish I could send all my European friends a box full! I have a table 24'x4' filled with 3.5" to 6" pots. I have another 24'4' table of 4-cell, 6-cell & 3.5" pots, and another 4'x8' table of 4 cell packs.
A flat of 6 cell packs has 72 plants, and a flat of 4 cell packs has 48... so you can see that I have far too many! The Aquilegia thread mentions many of the varieties, but I hadn't even gotten to the dwarf fellows, such as the flabellatas. I have some lovely 'Silver-edge' this year, but nobody seems to know that the leaves are supposed to look like that, so they are not selling.
I've got to stop planting aquilegia seeds for a year or two until I dispose of some of these. My goal is to get them all transplanted to 3.5" pots before winter, but I don't know where I'll put them if I do!
BF Admin???????!!!!!!!! LOLOL
So sorry not to get back here before - have had various panics going on, not least trying to set up a website for a campaign to save a lovely old chateau park. Once it's up I'll give you a link as we need signatures on a petition and anyway there should be some good photos and info
Sorry need to dash off again as my niece and hubby + 5 year old and baby arrive tomorrow - another panic to be ready in time......
Those aquilegias are beautifuk Weez!! Thanks for the link, that made some very calming viewing ;o))
Hope you find a home for all your collection
I'm happy to see you Weez .. Oooh beautifull Aquilegia you have ! I'm sorry they don't like my garden...to much sun during summer. We've had extreme high temps this summer...up to 40o C in my garden.
LOL WZ I know the feeling!
BF Admin? Philomel? Enjoy your family time!
Saya 40C is waaay too hot
My goodness, Baa, I just noticed the new addition to your credentials... does BF stand for BugFinder Admin? Saya, that temp would probably cook the Aquilegia, unless in a shady spot. Our gardens must be quite different, as most of mine gets only half-day sun, not to mention cooler temps.
Philomel, you sound like a busy, busy person. I can't imagine having a visit from relatives with small children! I've been babysitting my son's year old mut, and he has worn me out. Small children would put me in a coma!
Umm not really, Kennedyh is the BF Admin, we're just available to help out if he needs it.
Any more titles under my name and it'll make my posts so heavy they will all fall to the bottom of the threads ;)
Well, you have a BF Admin sign under your name, so it's official. Now, when the put BS Admin under your name, I'd protest, if I were you!
ROTFL I don't need that title WZ, I am just a major contributor ;)
I think most of us can boast being major contributors!
Aaaaaaah Bug Finder LOL - have to admit I thought you were having a laugh and it stood for something a lot ruder........
Yes, I'm just pleased Mum and Dad are with them Weez, otherwise I would definitely be on my knees! Though my 11 and 12 year old granddaughters who live here keep me young (or at least that's what they tell me....)
Wow 40C saya? That's even hotter than here and I feel baked!
