Hello,
I purchased 30 lilium bulbs ( Orienpet and Trumpet blend) on July 18, 2006, and they are all alive and growing in the bag. I was wondering if these can be planted this late in the season! I realize they won't flower, but do they have to be planted, since they have already sprouted in the bag? Will it delay or lessen it's chance of sprouting in the spring of '07? I guess I should have asked first, are these winter hardy in zone 5 (Michigan), or do they have to be dug in the fall? Any help would be greatly, appreciated! Thanks....P.S....I also purchased cannas, same questions for those also.....Thanks Again......

plant the lilies in the ground and you dont have to dig em
the cannas need dug up and stored in the fall-you can pot them or plant them Just have to bring them in later!
i would pot the cannas if it was me!
Ditto what notmartha said.
Thank you, for your replies! I planted the lilium's on Monday, and they have already begun to sprout (see pic). As, for the cannas, I have forty (40) rhizomes, that have already sprouted in the bag (see pic). What size pot's will I need to purchase? That is quite a few to pot. I couldn't resist the $1.00 price tag for twenty cannas. When I pot them, and bring them in for the winter, should I let the first frost get them, or bring them in while they are still actively growing. I wouldn't be able to place 40 cannas throughout my home. My basement stays between 52 - 64 degrees in the winter for storage. Please advise..Thanks in advance
It sounds like you have the right basement storage temp. Just let the frost get them, then dig up and dry out before storing them. You will find other references to how to prepare the roots for storage in earlier messages in this forum somewhere.
