Hi,
Is this hibiscus, or some kind of maple? I remember growing this as hibiscus from seed, but this is what I got after 1 year.
Thank you
ID please - Is this hibiscus?
Could it be a Texas Star? I think that is H. coccinea.
Looks like Texas Hibiscus to me. Wonder what the bloom color will be?
Should be red, mine is.
either Texas star or cannibinus
Eclipse - ROTFLOL I had the same thought
Judy
Hmmmmm, now how did either of you know that??????
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does look something like cannibis. Smoke some and see?
It does look like a Texas Star. and a cannibis for that matter. My husband asks me if that's what I'm growing all the time!
This post cracked me up as I read through it only because last year my mother-in-law gave me a few seedlings to start of a Texas Hibiscus, so I carefully planted them and then guess what? Forgot what I planted there......................so, as it grows my hubby said to me one afternoon, "exactly WHAT are you growing back here"????????????????? Glad to see that others find the resemblance to familiar looking to certain things! Loved the laugh, thanks.
Belinda
I hope it's not cannibis. There are some flower buds now. Will see what the flower looks like soon.
Eliza
Eclipse said cannabinus, not canibus. LOL Hibiscus cannabinus is a really cool plant!

The first year I grew it, I lived next to a city cop and county cop. How I willed that thing to bloom!!
LOL
Don't you love wandering into the middle of a conversation and hearing just enough to confuse you?
I didn't catch the difference in the names cannabinus and canibus. This made my day. Thanks for the chuckle.
Laughing out Loud!! I did not catch the difference in spelling either. Thanks for the laughter. Just what I needed on a Friday.
I have to honestly say I was LOL when I read it too. Kyle got in trouble without even trying. LOL
Well duh! I used to have a cannabinus but completely forgot there was such a plant.
Texas Star. I had one growing here in MA for about 4 years that I had dragged up here from NC. We had a really cold winter and it died unfortunately. I think if I had heaped on more mulch, it might have made it. They do die back to the ground.
good luck on yours and don't smoke it!
Martha
PS. that other kind of weed is really a weed not as woody stemmed as a hibiscus.

did you see the flowers that htop posted from the link that Badseed posted, they are beautiful.
I know last year I had two of these plants and my son came out and saw them and ask if I was growing pot. I laughed since I have never seen pot being grown. One of mine is blooming now and the other has buds.
Oh my, I was a little disappointed at first, because cannibis is not what I want. LOL. Badseed, thanks for the link.
2pugdogs,
I think mine will look like the flower posted by htop, because I peaked inside the flower bud this morning. I saw a deep red bud inside. But my plant doesn't have that many buds. I will post a picture when the flowers bloom.
Thanks every one.
Aw, Kyle always gets in trouble without trying...lol...Michele, that's basically what the one you sent me looks like now- were you trying to get me in trouble??
Although, like Kyle, I need very little help in that department...hehehe.
Isn't it funn to wonder what on earth you are growing and willing it to bloom at the same time? LOL
Hello Ladies! Anyone out there willing to share a cutting, or seeds, of the Texas Star Hib for the price of postage? Or, I could also do a trade of cuttings of Red Shield Hibiscus or seeds and/or cuttings of Hibiscus trionum L. (aka Flower-of-an-Hour). LMK!
Thanks for your consideration!
Just "ME", Jan
JanLynn thanks for that picture I now know what I have Hibiscus trionum L. I bought this and the tag disapeared.
Let me check if I still have some left. I'll get back to you.
JanLynn, sorry that I couldn't find the seed pack. Please ask in the seed exchange. I am sure someone else will have the red texas star hib.
Sorry
lol...apparently this whole "cannabinus" thing isn't a joke after all:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,127953,00.html
and just so ya know...it came up when I googled "hibiscus pot"...not when I was looking for a supplier or anything...lol
Now here is the truth on that story. I work @ a treefarm/nursery. We are a wholesale grower & we sold him the plants. & yes, they were Texas Star h.
